I got a decent quote from them for sash window replacements but wondered if anyone has heard anything about them..positive or negative. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! Glad to hear you were pleased with their work.

Anyone had any window replacements done by them?

Hi - I used them to make glass shelves for the display cabinets in our reception room. They were well made and not too expensive, however they were bahind schedule and when my husband went to pick them up, thye had forgotten to cut out one corner of each so that the lighting cable could be fed through, which had all been briefed. The first time we called to collect them, they had no idea about our order. So all I would say is be very clear as to exactly what you want and make sure you put it all down in writing; if you ger a quote I woudl check all the numbers and the dimensions, just to put your mind at rest.

Hi CJJ. I Dont know how far you have got with this, but, have you tried Ayrton Windows? - based in Earlsfield, fab showoroom and have been recommended for window replacements on NVN before! They do advertise with us - but as mentioned they have had first hand hand praise :)

Ask for Robert! Tel no 0208 871 9157

I'm afraid I had a bad experience recently. We used them to replace panes of glass in a Victorian sash window and were not happy with the work (which was also rather more expensive than expected) - we found one of the sash beads had been broken and nailed back in broken, and the puttying was very poor and lumpy and has had to be redone. Not impresseed.

Balham Glass and Joinery - a word of warning - don't touch them with a barge pole. They were meant to do 2 glazing jobs for me: they quoted quite quickly and all looked fine. They eventually did the first job after changing the day and time several times but took hours longer than estimated so I was left til the evening with no glass in the windows, having to get friends to bail me out for school pick-ups etc. For the second job, once they cancelled, once they just didn't turn up even though I'd taken time of work to be in, once they turned up and said it had been misquoted and they had also run out of time that day as would take too long. Finally, after reconfirming the day before, (so I'd taken time off work again) they didn't show again and when I called they then said they didn't want to do the work after all. I had given them the benefit of the doubt throughout but I don't recommend anyone else does - total timewasters.

Hi

Bad experience too I'm afraid. They didn't turn up to the appointment which had been booked. When I phoned to ask where they were they told me it was booked in for another day but that they would send someone "straight away" - it took me 3 further phone calls over the course of an hour and a half to establish that they were not actually coming.

I also sadly had a bad experience with them. They made us some new windows and the left hand side didn't match the right hand side. They made a new right hand side window but there is now a gap in between the two, so the wind whistles through and they refused to do anything about it. I have had to resort to draught excluder tape!

Overall theme is not too good for windows, and installing date reliability!

Had windows and a glass splashback done by them. Windows were a bit poor, the sealing between pane and frame wasn't as good as I would expect.

Glass splashback has been brilliant though. Fits perfectly. But they did cancel one day before they were to install, saying "paint was not dry yet". Then called me up next week to confirm which colour I wanted!

Also -if you're not fussed with receipts, they can do a discount , if you know what I mean.

I used them once years ago and they were fine, however I live on the same road as their workshop and have watched their vans repeatedly speed up and down Cavendish road, weaving dangerously in and out of the chicanes as children stream out of school. They also hammer down Weir road ignoring the speed display that lets their staff know they are way over the speed limit. My elder daughter was very nearly hit by one of their vans as it sped round the corner of Weir road and turned straight into the entrance of the Zennor estate without looking to see if anyone was crossing. I went in to tell the manager, a couple of days later when I was calmer and knew I wouldn't scream abuse at him like I initially felt like doing, and to say he was unconcerned was probably giving him more credit than he deserves.
I always use small local businesses but I decided at that point that some local buisnesesses don't deserve local custom.

I have used them and unfortunately I had a terrible experience. Ordered a lovely splashback but they scratched it on fitting and James the owner won't respond to my emails or phone calls - and I've called and emailed many times. Obviously, aftercare is not something they take seriously so I would advise against them if the service they've provided me is anything to go by. My only option is to go to his office which I'll be doing shortly.

I used Balham Glass a few years ago for several jobs. All were tricky from both design and installation perspectives but I was delighted with the finished results which were also comparatively reasonably priced.
