Beware seduction by a traffic warden

Postby jess123 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 5:25 pm

This afternoon I was seduced by a parking attendant. Alas it wan't as great as it sounds. I went to park outside the dentist near Cupcake in Putney but on noticing a parking suspension bay sign I pulled up to read the date. Where upon a parking attendant who was on his bike by the bay, ushered me into the bay and pulled down the parking suspension notice. I went to by a ticket and merrily went on my way. On returning to the car, the parking suspension sign was back up and both myself and the car behind me had been issued with a ticket.
This was clear entrapment and I am absolutely disgusted that someone would go out of their way to do something so evil. I found who I believed to be the same parking attendant round the corner and he of course denied everything saying he had proof he was elsewhere at the time I claimed it happened.
I clearly don't have a leg to stand on am obviously an idiot for believing him when he pulled the sign down. Please let this be a warning to everyone else parking in the area.
For your interest the parking attendant was number 1904 and the lady in the car behind who parked just before me said she never saw the sign and believes it wasn't there when she parked. Interesting that he hadn't issued her with a ticket when he was by the bay as I parked, only when he came back after seducing me.

Wow, I know parking wardens have a bad reputation but that is just incredible. Unbelievable behaviour! Awful. I would have done exactly the same. I hope you're going to complain to about it.....

poor you! it is definitey worth complaining! Parking attendants are paid on commission so this horrible young man has an incentive to lie. Wish there was someway the group of us could get together and back you but not sure that would work??

There should be cctv cameras if not on the street, then some local businesses have their own. You would probably need to ask quickly as they may not keep the footage.

All the best..

I would definitely complain to the council. And if it is a case of 'he said, she said' just state that the passenger in your car was also a witness.
The parking attendant will either state there was no witness in which case it will prove that he was there at the time or its two against one.
Don't roll over otherwise they will continue to behave in this awful way.
Good luck.

Outrageous. You should definitely appeal the ticket. The council rely on people not challenging the tickets even when they should, and more often than not, when challenged they cancel the ticket. I'm sure it's not the first time that particular traffic warden has acted in such a vile manner and he really needs to be taught a lesson!
Good luck.

Thanks for the support everyone, my sister suggested a trip to the Town Hall first thing this morning so I've been and managed to state my case and fill in a report. The council employee used the expression WOW so one assumes she genuinely believed me and fingers crossed they look into him and he comes across dodgy. A really nice person on the street said he'd pretend he saw it for me and gave me his details but I'd prefer to win this one through the truth, but then again my naivety got me into this mess!

Contact your MP. I have done so in the past for unfair parking fine (parking suspended when away on hol, no warning given, ticket not on car so had no idea til non payment notice arrived) and he sorted out. I'd been told by parking people I had no grounds to appeal. Good luck. How dispicable

I agree you shouldn't lie about someone with being with you - why counter a deceit with another deceit.
Hopefully the council will look into CCTV and he may have been caught on that.

Maybe someone out there can clarify this but Ithink there was a judgment that says if you don't see the sign you haven't entered into a contract and therefore aren't liable for the fine- think it was vine case and involved a woman who got a ticket when she parked quickly to be sick. Anyone know??

Update - Beware seduction by a traffic warden

Postby jess123 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:50 pm

I heard today that my parking ticket has been cancelled after Wandsworth council looked into the matter. Yay. Thank you so much to everyone for their support. Clearly turning up in person really helps to ensure your point is heard.
