Waiting lists can move especially if you hang on to the last second , we got a place at a similar school the day before term started having been about 40 on the list when first offers went out

Meeshter,

Thank you for your message, it is very encouraging. I am definitely going to hold on until the very last minute. The last thing to loose is hope!

Hi,

I registered my daughter 7 months after she was born and she is now 8th on the waiting list for Finton (joining next Sept) - I like you absolutely love it there but have been told by Lucy the registrar that the most people that have have ever dropped out prior to next Sept is 4! We have accepted a place at Hornsby (which is the most similar to Finton) and turned down a place at Thomas's (as feel it is a very different type of school). Good luck, I think the whole policy has changed at Finton now they have Lucy as the registrar - there were so many complaints with Hedi the previous one that they now have a very rigid policy (nothing to do with who your parents are etc,...). Talk to Lucy she should be very upfront with you. I like you have thought of bribes etc,. however unfortunately I think that doing that really won't change the situation........maybe if you were doing this at Thomas's then it might be different! good luck!

Hi Sophiehs,

Good luck with Finton and if not, I hope Hornsby works out as well for you. It does not sound good for me by the sound of your post... Well, I will nonetheless keep hoping!
I don't know what you mean about bribes, I have not thought of nor tried to bribe anyone, I understand it is strictly first come first served basis as Lucy clearly explained when we met her. I have also been told that due to the present economic climate and people registering their children and then moving, quite few people may no longer be around by the time they are called to register -and that's where my hopes lie...

Thanks all for your comments.

I wouldn't worry about the waiting lists as they are very fluid, also most parents register at more than one school.

One of the other posters was right, some schools have no spaces in reception (if they have a feeder nursery) but will have a place in year one. Selective schools typically have their entrance exams in January and make offers shortly after that, so it could be a good time to contact Finton House as there might be some movement on the waiting list.

Fixer, thank you! Ill definitely call in January to see how it goes then.

And thanks NappyValleyNet for the site, being able to share/ask information is really useful and helpful!

We also love Finton House and have been on the waiting list since our eldest daughter was just 4 months old. I have been to 3 open days and 2 coffee mornings with the headmaster. We now have 3 kids on the waiting list but our eldest who was due to start in Reception this Sept is still on the waiting list ? !!
I do however know for a fact that the waiting list is pretty flexible.
We know of somebody who is a famous U.K band member. 100% recognisable to pretty much anybody. Anyway his wife called HRH the Registrar at the school to enquire about a place for Reception year just a few months ago. She was told she should have thought about it at least 3 years earlier. (at this point the Registrar does not know who the Mum is). So she tells her husband about it who decides to pay the school a visit and hey presto they automatically got a place.
I guess one of the many priviledges of being famous !
