Can anyone recommend a loft conversion company?

Postby dalgers » Wed Oct 26, 2011 1:58 pm

Hi all
We are thinking of having our loft converted at the start of the new year and currently meeting with different loft companies to get an idea of what we can do. Unfortunately we live in Lambeth who seem really strict on what you can can have up there i.e. no mansard for us but just two dormer windows - boo! We wish we lived in Wandsworth!

We just wondered if anyone could recommend a good loft company? We are not looking for the cheapest etc as we really want the work to be excellent and builders to be tidy etc. So far we have spoken to A1 lofts and More Space.

Really appreciate any help/advice you can offer.

Many thanks!

Thanks all! We were away over the weekend so just seen all your responses.
Danske1234dance - once we get the quote in from Morespace I might message you separately to have a chat about your experience etc. I will also take a look at everybody else's recommendations - there seems to be quite a lot of choice out there!
Thanks again. D

re Morespace

I did a loft conversion with them and my neighbour did too. My experience was not altogether brilliant but this was compounded by the fact that i was working abroad at the time! Although they promised me that it would be 100% project managed and that i would have at least weekly calls frm them (they never called), there were numerous snagging problems along the way that were not picked up on and which subsequently became bigger issues eg not finishing off guttering so that in a torrential rain storm i had a significant water ingress problem into bathroom. The big stuff was all done ahead of schedule but i do recommend being on site much more than i was to ensure the small stuff does not get ignored. I also had problems with one of the decorators they recommended who did not finish off the bathroom correctly and again i had more water ingress problems!

Try Plus Rooms. They did our loft in the middle of last year and overall we were pleased.

By the way, Wandsworth doesn't approve mansards either (unless I had a super strict planning officer). We had to get a vertical dormer too and we live in Wandsworth.

Premier Lofts. Malcolm Newman 07831371948. Did ours in 1999. Brilliant. On time and on budget. Lovely to deal with. Still do many in the area and kitchens too now. Hope helpful.

I can highly recommend Decoworks, who did our loft conversion and back extension. They are not the cheapest, but the quality of work is of an extremely high standard, and they are a professional company.

Hi,

without a doubt contact Hurlingham Developments, call Andy on 07739 174360, he is highly skilled in property development and offers a very friendly approach. He offered us lots of information and help with the planning, and also priced in an architect for the job that works with him on other projects - many other building companies we saw worked independently of the architect which can cause communication problems etc. The job was finished on time and the builders were clean and tidy and respectful of the rest of the house ( and my new born baby ! )

You are welcome to message me directly if you need further info

Thanks

Northcote Mum

We had Jason Turnbull from Total Lofts, they did an amazing job, indeed they have just done two more on our street. Based locally so worked long hours (no travel back to Essex or Surrey). The process was easy, 6 weeks and we had a toddler in the house at the time. Competitive quote, hard working. We are thrilled as the space makes such a difference. Good luck.

Whatever you do, don't go with Protia Design and Build run by Espen Jewhurt. He's still quoting for jobs around Clapham but has closed down companies losing his clients tens of thousands. Ignore any recommendations.

Could not agree more. PLEASE everyone avoid Espen Jewhurst and Protia like the plague. They personally cost me a lot of money and are the route cause of 9 months of heartache.
