Vapourizers and sore throats

Postby leslos » Fri Jan 20, 2012 10:35 am

I have a vicks vapourizer. Does anyone know why you can only use vicks vapopads in it and not any other brands which all fit and look the same?

Also any good remedies for a two year old with a sore throat. I have tried frozen yoghurt but he won't have that will only eat watermelon at the moment.

Try Difflam Spray (Benzydamine hydrochloride)
It's great for very sore throat.
My daughter was very poorly and ended up in the hospital. She got this spray from a paediatric doctor. One of her problems was extremely sore throat and completely refused to take anything by mouth. It was bit of a fight to spray it in her mouth (she was 16 months old) but shortly after we gave it to her she slowly started to take some fluids... I always used it for myself and didn't know that such young children can take it a well.

Thanks for the advice. Gave him some honey in a syringe as did not have any lemon and he loved that. Also found nelsons sootha cough syrup which is homeopathic at our local chemist and that has helped as well. If it continues will go to the doctor as still running a temperature and see if I can get the other stuff to try and nip it in the bud and so he can eat something.

Try and get a look at your baby's tonsils (lolly stick to hold down tongue helps). I battled with my son's sore throat for a few days and when I finally went to gp, they took one look in his throat them told me to take a look and it was like scrambled egg at the back. Tonsils covered in white and yellow spots. I felt v ashamed that I had let his tonsilitis get so advanced. If you see any white or yellow spots he needs antibiotics ASAP. The fact yours has a fever and sore throat together is a good indicator for tonsilitis. I am no doctor, just a mum.
