Any ideas on where I can take my son for a haircut that doesn't cost a fortune? He's 19 months and has curly hair which needs a trim, too many what a beautiful girl comments!!!

I don't really want to pay £15 for a baby. I'd prefer to wait till I see my sister in law so she can do it (did trim first time round).

Hi, I have a girl with a fringe so I succumb to the £15 hair cut for her.

However, my friend who has a little boy and would not dream of paying such a ridiculous amount takes him to the little barber shop next to Clapham South Tube (near M&S). They have a chair for little people and I presume they are more sensibly priced.

If you want to keep some curl... have a playful look, your best bet is to go to a salon. the barbers tend to cut short (which isn't always bad) but just an FYI... x

Sally's on Northcote Rd is brilliant. She is really experienced and always does a fab job. She is definitely cheaper than £15. I think more like £10?

have you thought about cutting it yourself? I just did my 17 month-old son's first haircut yesterday - enlisted Dad to distract him, put him in his highchair, did a quick trim. Turned out pretty well if I do say so myself, and it was cheap and easy. I didn't cut much, because if I made a mess of it, I thought I would have to take him somewhere - but it was surprisingly easy. And honestly, they'll look cute no matter how you cut it... Just a thought, though it really depends on his hair too.

I had the exact same problem and after the 10th time of hearing 'what a gorgeous little girl!', I got home and decided -some of- the hair had to go as my 21 months old is a boy!
I didn't think too much about and cut it myself and honestly, it's much less traumatising and less expensive than a salon. I only cut what I judged was necessary and was quite happy with the result.

Costas and Andy's Barber Shop on Garratt Lane are great with kids!

Sally's is £12 for under 2's but worth every penny. We used to go to Happy Faces and I always felt like I was getting ripped off (it took about 2 mins to do the cut) but at Sally's it takes much longer and the result is much, much better.

My son is 23 months and we have just had his haircut for the first time. I was going to go to a barbers on Arthur Rd in Wimbledon Park as they have a little chair but wanted his first experience to be positive so I ended up taking him to Trotters on Northcote Road. It was certainly way more expensive than I had planned (my husband thought I was mad!!!) but for £13 it was great - they have an aquarium, loads of books and toys and they are really experienced with littlies.

The only major piece of advice I would give though is as soon as you cut around the ears, the child looks lots older so beware!!!

I agree with HJM. Went to happy Faces, the cut took about 5 minutes and wasn't 'finished' properly round the ears etc (short cut for a boy) felt a bit like a conveyor belt. Took my boy to a mens salon in wimbeldon for the next one. The cut was quick but they spent a long time finishing it and tidying up all the stray ends. Expensive cut doesn't always mean good quailty

I take my son to Costa's and Andy's barber shop on Garratt Lane. We did his first cut at Trotter's but I've found that C&A are brilliant - they do a great cut, are gentle and friendly with the kids, and there are individual little tv's above the seats that they turn to cbeebies specially. My son always waves to them when we pass and asks if we can go in for a lollipop.
