Has anyone managed to get creaky stairs/floorboards fixed?

We have a problem with really creaky stairs and landing and need to have the carpet taken up and some work done to improve them. They make a lot of noise if anyone walks around at night to go to the loo etc, so the whole house gets woken up.
We have tried a few people but no-one seems to want to do the job and I don't want to attempt it, so wondered if anyone else had ever had the same problem and might be able to recommend someone?

Has anyone had the carpet up to look at them yet?

We had a similar issue....but it was a big job and the floorboards needed replacing (which my husband did) we replaced them with chipboard flooring panels rather than wooden flooring (as we were just putting carpet back over the top)

Hi, we had this problem and we were recommended a company called FloorAid. 020 82860436 flooraidltd@blueyonder.co.uk. We used them about 4 years ago so I hope they are still going but they were really nice and very helpful.

JanePlan18 - thanks very much will certainly give them a try!

ding - we haven't had the carpets up, but we have had a look and there is ply over the boards so I am sure it will be beyond us to do a DIY job, plus the stairs are bad too so just not brave enough to have 'have a go' !

I'm looking for something similar... but wanting to strip back the carpet on the stairs, repair any bad boards, and sand and varnish it down. Did you get in any specialist floor companies, and would you recommend any of them?
