Sharm el Sheik - anyone been recently with baby/toddler?

Postby britchick » Wed Jan 13, 2010 4:15 pm

We're off to Sharm for some warmth at the end of the month, would love any top tips re travelling there with baby (9mons) and toddler (3.5yrs). Staying at 4 Seasons so assume most things available but wonder about food (milk, yogs, baby food) etc. Also from what i can gather no extra jabs required? Any info appreciated. :D

Hi, yes we went in November, also to the 4 seasons, with our baby who was then 10 months old. It was fantastic. Amazing service. We contacted them in advance to check about food for our son, who was at that awkward mid-weaning stage, and they bent over backwards to cater for him. No extra jabs were required. They have their own water purification plant so you don't even have to panic about Egyptian tap water! Email me if you want any more information.

Yes, we have been to the 4 seasons too. in fact, it is soooo accommodating to the children we went 2 years ago and returned last year. The staff go out of their way to make the children feel welcome with "presents" when you arrive at check-in to making the beds with mini-size duvets next to them for their beloved teddy when they do room service. There is a great kids club with a very varied programme so your older child will probably want to get stuck-in but it's also pretty relaxed in that you can come and go as you want. The main family suites are located around the kids pool where there is a restaurant where the children eat for free (not that the childrens menus are more than a couple of pounds in the other restaurants). One thing I would say is that if you want a sunbed around this pool (the gezira), you need to get up early to grab your spot - probably not a problem with your little one! That was one thing we noticed in October compared to the previous year, that people have started reserving sunbeds pretty early in the morning!! Another thing its good to do BEFORE you arrive is to email the hotel and book babysitting if you want it in the eveniings (you can always cancel it at 24 hours notice if you change your mind when you are there) but best to book in advance. Otherwise, no jabs required, bottled water readilly available in rooms and by the pools (we didn't drink the tap water) and just go and enjoy, I am slightly envious!!

Hi there.
I'm a nanny and went tothe 4 seasons in Sharm with the family I work fir in November.
I looked after a 2 year old whilst I was there, and must admit that the food was great and he had a great time (I recommend spending a lot of time in the pool at the top of the resort as it's very shady allday).
However do NOT have ice in your drinks. They say they have their own water purification filters thtthey use, yet myself and my boss both fell very I'll for the first 2 days and we put it down to the ice. I'm always really careful ad have never been unwell abroad, but this was the first time and it was a very unpleasant experience.
We had another incident there too which I won't go into, but they had a lot of grovelling to do to us, and because of that I don't recommend it to people.
The other responses are all positive though so maybe it was a one off.
Just watch the tummy though!
