Good Earth? yummy, very busy one in WImbledon Village that I used for years. Not the cheapest perhaps but great without that MSG upset.

Now someone has told me that 'The Establishment' on Battersea Rise is closing because of licence infringements. And that Cattle Grid is moving there. Anyone know anything about that?

Which if true then frees up Cattle Grid on Northcote...........the plot thickens..........

I have heard last week that Kew will be closing down soon, and that both Cath Kidston and Aspace are facing (very) difficult times...
Lets hope it is only rumours...

As someone who is on a mission to bring an independent boutique to Northcote Road, I'm really interested to hear what Clapham/Wandsworth mums want from their local shops.

As a result I'm holding a very informal 'focus group' - more of a tea party - tomorrow afternoon (11th May - 2.30 - 3.30/4pm) - buggies and children more than welcome.

For your generous time, I will be providing some much needed sustenance... in the form of cake and brownies PLUS a one off voucher of 25% off food and drink when dining at a local restaurant.

If you are interested please contact me on: kate@thekeepboutique.com

A Cashmachine would be nice, that doesn't charge for withdrawal..
Also would be nice to replace Debenhams with something more upmarket, House of Fraser or Harvey Nicks.

Would be lovely if instead of Hamptons we'd have convenience M&S food or some delicatessen shop. Also I miss Pret a Manger with their nice coffees, sandwiches and salads to go.

I would love it if Debenhams became a John Lewis! :-)

The shoe repair and luggage shop Northcote j/w Shelgate is closing on 25th June. Any ideas on what's replacing it? Given Bob Dove's recent interview in a logal magazine (SW?) don't get your hopes up that it's going to be very exciting or original. Retailers are having a very though time.

As I understand it the shoe repair shop is going to be turned into a dry cleaners that also does shoe repairs/key cutting. Allegedly it's the actual owner of the freehold that's behind the new shop.

Also I don't know if anyone's noticed but The Cattle Grid has shut up shop yesterday (it wasn't going to be long before one of the three burger joints gave up). Apparently they may well be moving to Battersea Rise but it's all rather ironic given the fact that it was Marzano the pizza place changing to Byron that precipitated their demise!!

Again speculative rumours only, but word on the street is that it's going to turn into some sort of pizza place.

I have just joined the Northcote Road Antiques Market taking an upstairs stall, having been on a waiting list for 2.5 years! In my head it was going to be my little online shop's big chance! The other stall holders and shop keepers at that end of Northcote Roa all say it is very very quiet. I have only been there 3 weeks but I am surprised by how empty the road is some days.

The market has steadyish traffic but many do not come upstairs which is a bit of a shame. Anyway, I would be interested in your thoughts on the market and, of course, delighted if a few of you venture upstairs and let me know if you like it!

While I am on here, any thoughts on the new Pintus cafe. Nice food but £2 for a can of coke!!!

Thanks

Catherine

Johnathon I posted about the Cattle Grid move a few weeks ago, just scroll up for the info.

Fenn Wright Manson going too so lots of changes going on. We do very well on Northcote Road but given the current economic situation it will be difficult for a clothes retailer to survive methinks.

I'm no fashion critic but so many of the womens shops look as if they are stocking the same stuff but I'm sure that's just my untrained eye ;)

Here would be my wish list:

- non italian non burger restaurants. Say, Vietnamese, Turkish, fish restaurant...

- cash machine

- corner store/minimarket close to Broomwood end

- a post office - perhaps in said corner store/minimarket

- a Gap / babyGap

- I would say a deli but what with the cheese shop, stalls, farmers' market at Balham and Waitrose I doubt I'd use one

- fewer bloody estate agents! Never understood why they need massive shop window space, why can't they be on the first floor?

- a John Lewis... (wishful thinking)

Cattle Grid is being replaced by a a pizza place called "franco manca" http://francomanca.co.uk/ Their USP is sourdough pizza apparently.

Don't know if CGrid is moving to Battersea Rise yet. Rumour has it is that Kew is going under so that could well be another vacancy?

Great news about Franco Manca - they really do the best pizzas and if it's anything like as good as their Brixton set up, it'll do well.

I agree with Julian, the ladies clothes shops are SO samey with the exception of QuestionAir & Whistles & Oliver Bonas ...... the rest are all so frumpy and could well be the same store as far as I can see (Kew, FWM, P8, Jigsaw).

I would second:

bank / cashpoint
small supermerket / conv store toward broomwood
GAP / Zara / H&M (all with kids section)
John Lewis in place of Debenhams (if only)
Family friendly cafe with space that doesn't overcharge (though Pintus has their great garden if the weather's good, and their coffee is yum)

Yayyyy! Franco Manca does divine pizzas...very excited to hear that it's coming to Northcote Road :-) Kew is definitely going...apparently, the entire company is shutting down! x

PS - Agree with the fewer estate agents wish list!
