Honeywell and Belleville Schools - other options BTC?

Postby tgjmummy » Tue May 01, 2012 9:17 pm

I have been following with interest the discussions on the catchment areas for Honeywell and Belleville since I became a mum recently. I live between Broomwood and Thurleigh Road (about 550m from Honeywell and 800m from Belleville). My next nearest schools are Alderbrook and Wix but they are over three times the distance from my home and looking at the distances for entry over the last few years again it looks tight. I am wondering if we have inadvertently bought a house in a black spot for schools. There are obviously plenty of private options but we really do not have the financial means. I would love to hear from anyone South of Broomwood on which schools they have been offered. There are so many young families on our street (over 10 under 3's on my side of the street alone). Where are we all going to go?

Alderbrook or Highview are your options (or possibly Falconbrook, Shaftesbury or Wix, depending on exactly where you are and how far you are prepared to travel).

Unfortunately south of Broomwood is a black spot for the BTC schools. If you are the Broomwood end of Wroughton, Hillier, Devereux etc then you are in with a bit of a chance for Honeywell/Belleville I believe, but it will depend on how many siblings or closer first children there are that year.

If you are the Thurleigh end of these roads, or even further away (on thurleigh or roads south of thurleigh) there is little chance of Belleville or Honeywell I think. Extraordinary since they are so close but just a sign of the demographic round here  .

The schools mentioned by the poster above have bigger catchment areas as they have fewer applicants, so you may be in with a better chance for those, even though they are further away.

Just one thing to note - the council is consulting on moving to a "straight line" measurement of distance rather than "walking route" distance, it's possible this might help eg if you have a wiggly route to school.
