I was wondering how your child was getting on at nursery? I've been informed my son has a place at the playgroup from January 2013 which I'm really pleased about but it would be good to get an update from a new starter.

My son is now in pre-reception, started in Nursery in Sept 2011 and he has loved it there. It is a very gentle, caring place and lots of space and brilliant toys for little ones and he's also learnt a huge amount - both in terms of numbers etc but also socialising and confidence building. They were also very kind during a trying potty training period and offered nothing but support and patience which I've heard some other places don't do. The teachers are excellent (good at teaching but also loving and generous). We've been very happy with the school and so has our son and we plan on putting our youngest into nursery in 2013.

That's a fantastic endorsement DomsMom - thanks for posting. I've visited a lot of state and private schools in London both personally and professionally, and I was overwhelmed with the open morning I spent at the school. I have a standard set of questions I ask at all the schools I visit and Bertrum House was the only school that gave a thoughtful and honest response that I would have expected from all of the schools.
Can I also ask when children move from the afternoon playgroup to the nursery? I know its from 2 1/2 years but is that based on the child's age or the school year they enter?
My son is September born so I am not sure whether he would do two terms of the playgroup and start nursery in September 2013 or whether he could start nursery in the spring term 2013?
I should probably ask the registrar all these questions.

No problem :-) As far as I recall if your child is born between Sept and March then you start in Septemer (so for you this would be Sept 2013) and if born April to August then they start in January (ie Jan 2014). This may have changed though. Best to phone and ask the school though as a few things have changed in the past year in terms of now offering one additional afternoon a week in the nursery year too. My youngest hopefully starting in Sept 2013 so may see you there :-)
