Recommendation for nurseries near Wandsworth Common?

Postby Balham3838 » Thu May 10, 2012 8:57 pm

Hi

Please could anyone pass on recommendations for or experiences of any nurseries that are close to Wandsworth Common station?

I understand wait lists are often really long so want to start to look for somewhere to place my baby at the start of next year.

Thanks

Hello,

My daughter went to Eveline Nursery in Trinity Crescent which is about 15 mins walk from Wandsworth Common Station. I used to drop her off and then get the train or 319 bus to Clapham Junction.

They have been in the area for about 45 years and they have just refurbished this branch. It is headed by Sarah who is really great and accomodating. Their hours are great as well. I was undecided whether to send my son there or their branch in Ritherdon Road however, I have decided on Trinity Crescent. They also have a school on Balham High Road. I have been to see quite a few other nurseries in the area to see whether things had changed over the last eight years (which is when I was first looking for my daughter) and went to Baby Rooms, Wee Care, Stepping Stones but Eveline came out on top. Maybe I am a little biased as I went there when I was younger :D.

Good luck!

Thank you! I'm going to give them a ring.

I'm hoping to find somewhere with quite a homely feel, a nice garden (ideally with a vegetable patch) and home cooked meals.

I can also look at nurseries around Northcote Rd or Clapham Common if anyone else has any suggestions?

I Live in at James's drive, next to Wandsworth common station and have had both of my children at second steps nursery since they were 1. It is. Fabulous place, privately owned, in a converted Victorian house on Ravenslea road. I cannot recommend it highly enough - they tie children on trips to museums, the London eye and give them swimming lessons each week. I tried kids unlimited at the beginning but there is no comparison! Both my kids then moved onto hornsby house school 5 mins up the road.

Jemma Cowley the owner is fantastic ne the staff have been there for years. It's open from 8 until 6 every day and only closed on bank holidays and two weeks in the summer - it is fabulous!!!

Hi

My son goes to Kids Unlimited too and loves it there. I would really recommend it, the fact that it is purposed built is a big plus in my eyes. Unlike the nurseries contained in a Victorian house all the rooms at KU are on the same floor and they have a lovely outside play area within the building so on days like we are having right now with all the rain the kids can go outside when it is dry and rush back in very quickly when the rain comes!

All the best in your search.

I would highly recommend Eveline on trinity crescent. Newly refurbished building, massive garden, all meals prepared from scratch on-site (none of this pre-prepared and warmed up in the microwave business) and above all the most wonderful staff-many of whom have their own children and are slightly more mature and experienced.
My daughter has been there since it opened and loves it. The managers Sarah and Joan are both long serving staff members from other Ofsted rated outstanding Eveline nursery branches and are extremely involved day-to-day and very accommodating.
I would not have returned to work if I had not found this nursery.

My son also goes to Evelyn Day nursery and really loves it, often he doesn't want to leave when I pick him up. Staff are really nice and they do care about kids, they have the good combination of experienced staff and new members of the team. Turnover seems low (also in other branches, I have checked, which says a lot on the atmosphere within the group). Meals are cooked there on a daily basis, garden is huge and the branch has been newly refurbished.

For me the best nursery, I have seen. I would also recommend, Northcote gardens (similar in approach) however waiting list is very long...

good luck

Hi there

Going back to work can be so daunting. I could only take 3 months off so had to put both my little ones in very young so looked very hard at all the local options. We started at Teddies in Balham and whilst the room staff were lovely there were obviously huge management issues with a chain and the staff turnover was terrible including 3 nursery managers in 18 months. It made me realise that it's not the setting but the staff that are the most important. We moved to Nightingales nursery based in St Francis Xavier college (entrance on Malwood road) which is much smaller and has a very homely feel. The manager Emma has been there 12 years and deputy head 13 (I think). Since my son started nearly 3 years ago there has only been 1 staff change. It's not got quite as many bells and whilstles as others so you have to decide, but all the parents I know there are incredibly happy. I think there's been a similar post recently in response to nurseries in Tooting.

Do feel free to message me if you want to chat by phone.
Good luck

My recommendation is slightly further away, but if you're on the 'toastrack' side of Wandsworth Common, so near enough to walk to Earlsfield station, then I highly recommend 'Sticky Fingers'. They have been so wonderful to my little boy, and although the building might not look as amazing as some other nurseries, the staff turnover is extremely low and they all take so much time and trouble with the children. I happily go off to work knowing that if my (shy) boy has bit of a difficult day, then he would get all the time and affection he needs. I'm very impressed, even more so after I hear awful stories about a nearby nursery which has recently opened. I knew Sticky Fingers was good, but possibly didn't realise how good they were in comparison to other places!! Good luck with finding somewhere!
