I've had a small problem in trying to remove the pump cap from my washing machine which failed to twist off completely. Not only could I not remove it, but I couldn't get it securely tightened back because of some obstruction. I wanted to try and clean the filter as my washing had dirty marks and the machine sometimes makes unusual banging noises when spinning, although not often.
After calling a number of plumbers and handymen, most wanted to charge above £80 for a call-out. Siemens were £89 plus VAT and couldn't get to me for 5 days. All I wanted was for someone to remove a pump cap so that I could try and clean the filter and remove the obstruction.
I eventually came across 'Dan', who i found on NappeyValley and who had some great reviews. I have to say that he was fantastic, removed the bikini under-wire, and something else from under the drum I believe, and left the machine in good working order. His costs were very competitive compared to the other people I had called earlier for this small job.
He also repairs dishwashers, and I understand from him today, that he is a qualified electrician too.

Just wanted to recommend a washing machine repair man who has just fixed our ageing washer/dryer. Was expecting him to write it off and was worried he'd do that whatever to have his call-out fee without having to do any work, but not at all. He's called Jack and seems to be a very experienced, old-school repair man. Costs £45 whether he's there 5 minutes or 5 hours.
