Northumberland Fisheries?
They buzzed us this week. Didn't buy anything but would love to hear if anyone did and what the price/quality was.

They have come to my door before and I bought (if its the same people).
They claimed it was from North Shields but afterwards I felt it was I had been conned as unlikely any fresh fish would be transported down from North Shields to be sold door to door here. Our conclusion was that we were buying ok but frozen fish.

The fish stall on Northcote Road serves good quality fish and Moxons at Clapham South are also excellent. Both reputable and you will at least know where fish came from and how fresh. Both will fillet and prepare the fish the way you want it.

Support our local independent suppliers.

No harm trying one small delivery I guess to see the quality! But I'd be doubtful if it is cheaper than from the store, seeing how transporting fresh fish around is not cheap.

I would give it a miss, I once bought some years ago & then was told it was "old fish" & shouldn't have been refrozen, I had frozen all of mine.

The fish stall on Northcote is good as is Waitrose for fresh fish.

I live in Southfields and there were men touting door to door fish over several months on my road last year. I eventually let one of them in (sounded like they were also from NE) and there was a heavy sell on buying in bulk. I said I only wanted a couple of bits and eventually he agreed. I put it in the freezer but when I thawed it out to use it it smelled awful so chucked it in the bin. Glad I didn't buy a whole load!

Oh my word - I have been fleeced by these guys several times -they are really scary and like someone before on this post - I hate saying no! The first time, I think I had just watched some programme the night before about how it is good to eat fish, so bought ten packets of fish for £100!!! It wasn't bad but it stunk out my freezer for months!! After that, they obviously targeted me and I bought one or two bits and yes a few were off by the time I defrosted them! The last time, I had a friend for tea and my daughter was having massive tantrum because I was just about to serve their supper and she was tired and hungry - the usual! He knocked on the door (you know the one with dark hair, lined face and a perma tan!) and he could see that it was not a good time but none the less he carried on regardless and barged in and I felt I had to buy something to get rid of him! Whilst I was writing his cheque my daughter was screaming on the floor and he didn't bat an eyelid!! That is the last time I am using them and seeing this post has given me even more strength to stand up for myself when they are next here!! I will go to Northcote road now!!

This is a common scam that has been going on in Wandsworth (and all over the UK) for at least 30 years (I'm a victim too). The fish is poor quality, comes prepacked and mislabelled, often in unrefrigerated vans (usually just around the corner). You are invited to buy from a list of available fish shown by the salesman. Once you make your selection (bulk buying for the freezer is encouraged) the salesman disappears, returning shortly with a number of clingfilm polystyrene packs on the bases of which your selection has been scribbled in pencil. Once you have been encouraged to quickly put them in the freezer you are then hit with the bill. To those householders who hate saying 'no', all you need to do ON THE DOORSTEP is: (1) ask for the price of each fish by weight or by pack AND (2) ask to see the fish actually in the van before you commit to buying anything. And in any case, wouldn't you rather support your local traders.......?

I hate feeling under pressure from door to door salesmen. I just tell them we're a vegetarian household and they leave immediately! Works a treat.

I have bought from them before, in a very pushy manner they came with a bill of £190 claiming that I was buying for half the price of the high st.

Settling for £40 worth of fish I then went to the fish stall and compared the prices. They are exactly the same! Plus you know it's from a reputable source and fresh. The fish was not entirely bad but certainly NOT fresh!

Being so close to the fish stall I would rather keep supporting the local trade!

They came to my door years ago and convinced me it was fresh fish and I could load up my freezer. They went up the road and then came back. I succumbed to one piece for £10.00. I did freeze it. It was a rip off price and not that good fish. Say no to them! Goodness knows where it really comes from!

"Northumberland Fisheries" were back yesterday BTC and really aggressive. I rather rudely shut the door in their face but felt quite liberated having done so!
