logic board gone on apple mac probook

Postby cosmopolitanmum » Fri Sep 14, 2012 2:38 pm

My logic board is broken on macbook pro. It will cost £360 to repair it but I can get a new one for £900. The laptop is 2.5 years old. 3 questions:
1. can anyone repair it cheaper than apple store?
2. would anyone want to buy it and repair themselves?
3. is it better for me to just get a new one as at least it will be under warranty if something goes wrong again!
Thanks

Dear Cosmo mum,

What a happy coincidence - this is the first time I've sat down with my IT expert husband to look at this website!

Mr IT loves Macs and has given me the following answers to your questions:

1. can anyone repair it cheaper than apple store?

Probably not. There aren't a lot of people out there who can fix logic boards.

2. would anyone want to buy it and repair themselves?

This is unlikely.

3. is it better for me to just get a new one as at least it will be under warranty if something goes wrong again!

Yes and consider getting the extended warranty, Apple Care. One cheaper option (but only marginally) is to buy a refurbished macbook pro from Apple. It will come with a warranty.

I hope this helps!
