Hypnobirthing reccomendations

Postby Minnie » Fri Oct 19, 2012 6:14 pm

Hi,

I'm really thinking of doing hypnobirthing this time round and wondered if anybody can reccomend anyone they've used and whether they found it to be successful or not.

Did you go on a course or did you just use a CD?

Would be great to hear your views.

I wholeheartedly recommend Maureen Kiely. The work she did with me to prepare for birth helped me so much and I managed the pain and anxiety a million times better than I did with my first labour. Maureen works for Zita West at her clinic which is where I saw her, but also has her own clinic with sessions in London and somewhere outside London.

We did a course with Helianthe Ruskin which was brilliant - hypno-birth.co.uk - somewhere around Wandsworth and would recommend at least one private session. You do need to put in the practice but it's worth it.
I personally couldn't stand the relaxation cd so found some music I loved and used that. I also made up an aromatherapy blend and got that out too every time I did the exercises. I swear it helped!

Also went for this 2nd time round and a home birth. Managed well for 4 hours and detached from any pain. It turned out my baby was huge and distressed and despite fast and strong contractions there wasn't much progress. With concerns for me and baby, 2 ambulances arrived. I think the midwives and my husband were very worried but I remained focussed and calm and managed to deliver my 11lb 3 1/2oz (yes really!) son 2 hours later with no drugs or intervention.
I really believe without hypnobirthing this would have been a very scary and dangerous experience for us both. And 99 percent of women also have normal size babies. Go for it!

Thanks so much for the reccomendations!

Just contacted Kristin. How many private sessions did you have on top of the course?

Hi Minnie,

My name is Sarah Griffiths and I've recently qualified as a registered Hypnobirthing teacher. I had a really positive experience using hypnobirthing techniques to give birth to my son last year, so am now keen to help other expectant mums to do the same!
I am currently only running private courses, but would be happy to discuss a reduced fee (due to being newly qualified). I live in Teddington, but would be able to host the course for you and your birthing partner at your home if that would suit you better.
Please give me a call if you would like to have a chat - 07887713545/ 02082418569

Either way, congratulations on choosing Hypnobirthing and wishing you an empowering birth experience.

Sarah
