Very bad experience today at Happy Faces

Postby SabineMum » Tue Oct 23, 2012 5:30 pm

Hello,

We had a very bad experience at Happy Faces - really unpleasant staff, which made our haircut today a real ordeal. They couldn't have cared less that my son was crying. Wondering if this was a one-off or if the experience is never to be repeated again?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

In the grand scheme of things, a child's haircut can hardly be "a very bad experience". It's a haircut.

If you don't like Happy Faces, don't go there.

There are worse things that can happen.

Sorry to here of your experience - we visited when they first opened 3 years ago i think and had the very same experience I'm always surprised they still exist as i hear similar stories all the time. I can only think that its because its so i hard to get appointments at Sally's and Trotters. We have used Northcut as well as the usual kids hairdressers and noticed that Francesca Alexander has a kids haircut offer for £5 at the moment.

@mummyof1: Thank you for your reply which means I will never go there again.

@LaraHill: Well, yes, of course, but it doesn't cost any less money for the experience to be so unpleasant! As a rule one shouldn't have to be faced with so much rudeness when giving someone some business. I won't assume you work for Happy Faces, but given the other comments I have since found on this forum, it is rather bewildering that they haven't tried to make a better reputation for themselves. I shoudl have check the reviews on Nappy Valley before booking our first haircut there. Next time it'll be back to the lovely Trotters!

You are right in that it is alot of money to pay for a haircut. I think I may be just a little old fashioned, and keep imagining my Granny, and what she would think of children's specialist hairdressers!

I don't think they should be charging all that money, just use your local hairdresser, and forget the gimmicks.

Dear Sabinemum
sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Yes, at Happy Faces staff can very VERY rude.I took my daughter when she was a baby. I havent been since, we also had a bad experience. She is now 2 years and take her to my hairdresser and she loves it. I agree, the place should be closed.

Normal hair salons (not kids specific places) from my experience are MUCH better than ANY kids place. My kids get better cuts and love looking in the mirror etc... I just bring along some entertainment and we're good. I just find the price, the cut, and the service all too much to deal with.

Trotters is very good :). No i do not work for them but i am a nanny to a little boy who gets his haircut there and we ahve never had any problems. They are always welcoming and friendly. The big fish tank and books on offer are a good distraction and the girls are calm and considerate of their little clients. My charge loves the car to play in before his haircut and the chocolate coin after for being a good boy :)

Would recommend trotters to other mummies and nannies :)

I have been to the one in Fulham 3 times and have only had good experiences. One day I turned up to find I had booked with clapham and they still fitted me in.

There's a great barber shop in Balham, just off the High Street on Chestnut Grove. The first time my son went there he was really nervous and clingy and the lovely man was happy to cut his hair while he was sitting on my lap, having turned on the TV to Ceebeebies. They also have a little car that you can sit in. Now my son loves it, and always asks if he can have his hair cut when we go past. I usually don't even book just walk in when passing. Much cheaper than either Happy Faces or Trotters too.

Took my daughter there on Monday after going to sallys for a while. Didn't realise the price had gone up and £17 for a 3 yr is ridiculous but it was a good cut and no complaints about the staff in fact our hairdresser was lovely (she was new since ive last been) Maybe it depends who you get...not sure I'll go back for that price though.

I have been taking both my daughter and my son to Francesca Alexander for the past 2 years and have been very happy ! They do a great job and the kids love going to a grown up hairdresser !

I've got to stand up for Happy Faces! I've been taking my 3 yr old there for a year or 2 now and he absolutely loves it. We've only had good experiences with the girls there, and they do a really good job. We always go first thing in the morning though - maybe that's got something to do with it?

I do agree it's eye-wateringly expensive. Not sure what I can do about that though as he thinks everyone gets to sit in Thomas and watch Peppa Pig when they get their hair cut! If only ;)

I appreciate that not everyone has had a good experience there, but they definitely get my vote.

Thought I'd add some additional feedback on Happy Faces as I've now washed my son's hair since his hair cut last week. Apart from having had to deal with the rudeness of the staff, I realise his haircut is far from good. They took too much off at the top and didn't manage to cut a straight line at the back! A total waste of money!

I wouldn't recommend Trotters either. When my eldest was younger we got half a haircut as he cried and they said it was 'too dangerous to continue'
Still charge me full price though!
We go to What about me' near Wimbledon now- £12.50 and they can sit in a car or a plane, watch dvds and eat cookies! Cuts are good and staff v v patient.
