Bra's - 1st pregnancy - HELP?!?!

Postby Pod » Thu Jan 10, 2013 8:37 am

Hi there, i am 15 weeks pregnant with my first baby and whilst I still don't look pregnant - my ever expanding bust gives me away!

The problem is that I don't know what to do about the constant need to buy bigger bra's - also can I really not wear underwired? (this has been advised against for milk duct issues etc)

I only ever buy Freya underwear as it's the best fit, comfortable and pretty - not on the purse strings though!

So before my Xmas break away I went to M&S and bought 2 lace non wired bras - that were really only for holiday - they were itchy, didn't give great shape and I ended up in my sports bra all holiday as a result.

I have already gone up from 30D to 30E and need some advice on what to do and where to buy - is there some magic - fit you for longer bra lol?!?!?

Sorry for long post

Congratulations!

You may want to try JoJo baby maman as they have bras that are elasticated round the chest and come in sizes small, medium and large. They look a little more like sports bras but they are super comfortable. I had done the same thing as you, buying about 5 other fitted nursing bras and only then stumbled across the jojo ones. Post pregnancy i have found them great to sleep in too.

Good Luck!

First of all, Congratulations!

I went to Pretty pregnant (there is one in northcote rd, http://www.prettypregnant.com/pages/19/Sizing-Guide.htm ) for a fitting at around 14 weeks and that made a big difference. Then later in my pregnancy i bought a couple of bravado bras (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004I49D7U/r ... nkCode=asn) to wear as sleeping bras, and i did not looked back, i bought a couple more and that was all I wore bra-wise until halfway through the breast feeding year.

It is a little of trial and error thing, so whatever you buy, just get one and test it for a while, and if you find something that you love, stick to it. my breasts kept getting bigger and bigger during pregnancy, and the bravado bras adapted perfectly.

I hope this helps, good luck on your search.

Many congratulations, exciting times!

I second the recommendation for Bravado seamless nursing bras. I found them to be by far the best and recommend them to all my friends. They come in small, medium and large and each size does a number of bust sizes as they are easily expandable so it should grow with you negating the need to buy lots of different bras. They also have a snap opening strap for nursing too. They are so comfortable that they could easily be slept in. I bought three and they lasted me throughout my pregnancy and until I stopped breastfeeding. JoJo and John Lewis sell them for about £30.

Yes bravado ones are by far the best. If you look around on the Internet you might be able to find them in a few colours besides the standard back , nude and white.

The only problem with them is they come up quite high at the front. Not an issue with winter jumpers but I found it a problem with little summer tops. I didn't find anything better though in terms of comfort and support.

Just back from JoJo Maman on Northcote road - Wow what fantastic service! I was so pleased with the friendly service - the lady couln't do enough to advise and help me - service like this is not often seen these days. I tried on everything in the shop - as I am a 30-32 most of them were not fitted enough and others fell short with the cup cutting across my bust. But BRAVO for the Bravado - in cream and without the cups in gave beautiful shape. SO COMFY! Have decided to wear it over next two days and then go back on Sat to buy some more - the great stretch means some room to grow too.

Am so relieved - thank you everyone for your great advice!

and thank you JoJo maman for such excellent service! Not sure of the lovely lady's name but she works Thursdays and Saturdays if anyone is interested x

I have had the same issue with ever changing bra sizes. I am now at the end of my pregnancy so it shouldnt change too much now. I have gone up at least 3 cup sizes! A real expense for me! Have bought at least 6 bras.
With regards to under wired, I was told by midwife and also a breast feeding consultant (from NCT) that an underwired bra is fine through pregnancy as long as it is well fitted and been measured. I ordered an underwired nursing bra online.

However once you are lactating and producing milk, you must only wear soft cup!!

Hope this helps. I have found that underwired has been the only kind of bra that has best supported me. Much more difficult to find bras to support you if you are bigger than E cup.
I bought my most recent bras from Bravissimo.

I got a couple of soft-wired maternity/nursing bras by Anita from Figleaves for my second pregnancy. I'm still wearing them now, almost a year after DD2 was born! They weren't cheap - about £35 each - but it was some of the best money I've spent. I'm still breastfeeding, and I've not had any problems with the wiring myself.

Ooh lovely, many congrats! xx :D
Even though the standard advice is not to wear wires during pregnancy, if
you prefer to do so, there's no real risk AS LONG as you get fitted by a
trained fitter, and you are prepared to change bra and size each time your
bust expands. Saying that, it sounds like it could be a pricey option!
So instead I would perhaps try a maternity bra that has some good stretch in
the fabric, with a smooth fabric (as your bust expands, your skin will be
ultra sensitive) - Bravado's seamless silk is a good option, or try
http://www.Amoralia.com's second skin ( :) I would say that, and they have a SALE on!) Knitted fabrics are good, stay away from lace/woven cotton/satin mixes so that your skin can breathe.
Also try Figleaves.com - they have a huge selection of maternity and nursing
bras, you can try them on in the privacy of your own home and get free
returns/exchanges! A x

Hi
I have two children- secound DD is 15 months, and to be honest I went all non wired on my first pregnancy and hated it so secound pregnancy I just bought bigger wired bras. Sadly( for some!!) Boobs are the first thing to grow, and it doesnt really stop by the end i just bought 2 sizes bigger and that seemed fine.
hope that helps.
