Would love a 'Eat Play Love' type of place on Northcote. They seem to be doing well in Battersea, although I do wonder if they make a profit...

Always the business rates and for most, the exhorbitant rentals. You really wonder how any shop manages to stay afloat these days. We're going to end up with only Sainsburys, Boots and Tesco locals (mind you, we're nearly there now)...

Letterbox is going. There is a post to that effect. There is also a link to Wandsworth planning to submit your view on the type of business applying.
I've completed the link on the Wandsworth site. I too have nothing against Estate Agents or Licenced premises per se, it's just there already exists a very comprehensive range of both on Northcote Road.

If you go to the Wandsworth.gov.uk website, you can see details of the application at Search applications and make comments and enter reference 2012/5880.

Email comments to Planningapplications@wandsworth.gov.uk or write to Borough Planner’s Service, Town Hall, Wandsworth High Street, SW18 2PU

Just a thought, and I suppose this and other threads (and in fact other websites) have attempted to do something similar, but how about a list of local independent shops on this site, suggested by everyone here? The discussions about shops morph as they go on, and although the NVN search engine is very good, it might be nice to have an actual list of neighborhood places that people like to shop at. It might generate business for the shops, and keep them around.

Maybe we could list by area (Northcote Road, Balham, Abbeville, etc.)? I don't have a view on whether people could then add reviews (might create the same "morphing" problem as above?).

Maison Des Roses on Webbs Road has shut down. Any ideas as to what's going to replace it? It's a big site.

Thanks for the direction and the reference WandsworthResident. I just went and posted my objection.

Everyone should do the same as this will hopefully preserve the retail nature of this site.

According to the Wandsworth Guardian, Tony's is closing THIS weekend. It has been rumoured for a while but I didn't notice any signs the last couple of times I've been in. He has applied for a stall licence but has been told he must wait for up to a year.

He says that business rates have forced his closure with the pressure generated by the various chains. A Turkish restaurant is due to open in its place.

I agree would be good to have another 'crumpet style' place that is kid friendly. I also would love to have a Carluccios! I think a child photography studio would be good but guess they don't the overheads to do business.

A lot of people are saying we need a Post Office, but there is already a great one on Alfriston Rd, only a couple of minutes from Northcote Road. I use it all time and it's great.

Up on Webbs I have it on good authority that Bubbles will be closing soon. There's quite a few premises to fill now. Fingers crossed some bright enterprising people will take them on.

I think some more estate agents would be good.
