Wooden flooring

Postby tvmum » Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:06 am

Has anyone had a real wood floor fitted and can recommend the company. There's a few on the internet but I prefer to get recommendations from happy customers.
Many thanks

We used the people on Cavendish Road, Wooden Floor Specialists, I think they're called.
We were very happy with them, and the floor still looks really good a couple of years on. I'd gladly use them again.

I just looked them up, they are called The Wooden Floor Specialists. www.woodenfloors.co.uk

I was going to say do NOT use The Wooden Floor Specialists in Cavendish Road. They laid an oak entrance hall for me, that was very nice so I got them to install a kitchen floor in top of the range Junkers solid maple, I think it is. I was assured that it was perfect for a kitchen, I particularly asked about water being spilled. ABSOLUTELY fine I was told. Floor was installed at great cost, looked wonderful and within a month edges started to lift. They returned (4 of them) and said that water had been spilled and nothing could be done. Water? On a kitchen floor? Some of the floorboards have also got large gaps between them. They came back again, stuck some filler in and within 2 months the gaps were back. The floor now looks truly awful, what a waste of over £3,000. The floor was not varnished when it was laid which, I would have thought was vital to protect the wood on a kitchen floor, Junkers say they advise it, Wooden Floor people say they do not ever do it! Great! They have been back about 6 times, done nothing except say drips of water are bad for the floor!

Hiya,

I have just had all of our wooden floors downstairs relaid after a flood in January and I went direct to a company called Jordans Wood Flooring near the Wimbledon dog track at Plough Lane. It was a bit more work than normal because they are really just trade suppliers but they gave me the name of a floor fitter (Paul Sage) who came out, measured up and fitted it beautifully. Quite a bit cheaper than everyone else I approached, and Paul was a really lovely guy too...

Cheers,

Tigger

I am in the process of using Jordan's Wood Flooring for a client and have used them before, they do supply mainly to trade so can be a bit rough around the edges initially if you are a retail client, but I have found them to be really friendly guys who really know their stuff and supply a great range good stock. I am eligible for a trade discount so if you wanted to buy through me I could get you a discount per sq m.

I have also used Wooden Floor Specialists in Balham and found them to be aggressive and intimidating after a client was not pleased with the finish of a light refurbishment job I called to ask them to come back as it wasn't as good as we'd hoped and the chap on the end of the line got really shirty and asked if we were trying to rip him off?! Not good. The MD came out in the end and did fix the issue until we were happy with it but the whole thing was really let down by the attitude of the staff.

Hope this helps!

Emma

I have also just had a new wood floor fitted in my hall and dining room by Woodrow Flooring on Old York Road and am absolutely thrilled with it. www.woodrow-hardwood-flooring.com

They listened to what I wanted to do and were really positive - no sucking through teeth - fitted the floor quickly and carefully with lots of focus on the detail and most importantly they were happy to work around our lives. For example we discussed and negotiated the times that I wouldn't be able to walk on the floor around my kids sleep times - thankfully it was only 30 mins we had to keep of it. They ensured that the tools were always safely out of the way of my two kids, and were always friendly when the children just wanted to watch or talk! They even cleaned up every night before they went home.

Woodrow Flooring really were excellent and the floor looks fantastic, I would definitely recommend them.

Hello, we are looking for a decent flooring company to fit engineered wooden flooring throughout our property. Any recommendations ? We are located off of Northcote Road and ideally would like a fairly local company.

We have just had Albert/ Acacia wooden floors who are based in Tooting - I cannor recommend them highly enough. He worked with me for 3-4 months during the end part of the build to advise on flooring and helping us to choose what we wanted/ was most suitable. Albert works on his own - not for a big company - and therefore lives by his reputation. Just look the company up on the internet - there are literally hundreds of positive reviews.

The job was done entirely at my convenience and we have a beautiful engineered oak, grey washed wooden floor throughout the downstairs which i adore!

Hi!

We had wooden floors fitted in December and we used Floors For Thought (they are located on Battersea Rise, very close to Northcote Road): http://www.floorsforthought.co.uk/

They did a good job - our floors (and stairs) look very nice. No problems so far. Our fitter was called Zoltan, he should accept independent jobs if you are only after someone doing the fitting. His number is: 07730 230 672.

I'm also looking for wooden flooring.

Just looking through these posts, wanted to raise awareness of the recommendations for the place on Old York Road - Woodrow Flooring....one is highly suspicious - 'Susan' posted on the same day on a different thread, telling us that 'they' (i.e. woodrow flooring) have moved location...so she is actually Woodrow Flooring rather than a client as made out here.

Other post from SP Mum recommending this place also a bit suspicious as she joined and posted on the same day - though has posted on other subjects too so possible she's a genuine client who they've asked to post if happy with their work.

I felt the same about the Cavendish floor people's attitude. But we went with them anyway and were really pleased with the floor they laid for us.

Try Phil at PJ Pine www.pjpine.co.uk for the floor sanding. He did a fantastic job on our Victorian floorboards. Just to warn you, he can sound quite vague on the phone and I don't think he writes anything down, but he has the most incredible memory. A lovely guy too.

This topic seems to come up a lot - think this is the third time I've recommended the brilliant Alex at Alex Wood Floors : [url]http://www.alexwoodfloor.co.uk

He did a really great job, everyone who comes over asks who did our floors.
