As Haggis said, get a cat.
When we had our cat, we never saw one single mouse other than one that he killed in the kitchen in just one pounce a few years ago.
That said, only go for younger cats as they start getting lazy when they're older and not so efficient ;)

I've moved here from Brooklyn apartment buildings which are trickier to clear out since your neighbour could be harboring a whole family whilst you are keeping tidy.

First off, CATS! They are the best. Except when they play cat-and-mouse, then it's really gruesome.

Secondly, I don't know if they are available here, but I've used a trap that gives the mouse a deadly electric shock, runs on batteries, I believe. It's supposed to be quick and painless for the mouse. You could use the over and over, assuming you have someone in the house brave enough to remove the dead mouse. It's also better than poison since you don't have dead mouse smell coming out of the floor boards for weeks. Peanut butter for bait (American mice, after all).

Double Smilie.

I noticed two or three of you logged into our website from the recommendation below for http://www.pestcontrolservices.co.uk

It's always nice to see that someone recommends us and it really helps when people make the effort to write something. Obviously if any of you have used us and have not been happy I would prefer you contacted me directly at graham@beaverpest.co.uk.

Another way of checking out pest control companies is to log onto Checkatrade.com and do a search for pest control in your area. You will then be able to see loads of customer comments. Hopefully you will see us there too.

Thanks again.

Right,
So I just had a guy in from pest control company yesterday, he has found 2 massive holes in our house obviously not visible to us, as I has every little hole filled less then a month ago. The one big hole is in our children's room in a closet where the boiler sits apparently the plaster is crumbling, the second hole is in our kitchen behind the dishwasher which can't be pulled out without a builder/plumber.
Just saw a dead little mouse in the kitchen and the guy said all of them will be killed by the time becomes back in 2 weeks, but now the huge holes that we can't get access to are the big problems as the mice will come back. Does anyone know a builder who would sort this out, and ASAP????
Please advise!!!!!

A, We used a guy on our street, Jethro, to install our integrated dishwasher. He's a bit of a jack of all trades, so probably plasters too, but I've not used him for that. He's very precise though (his wife says perfectionist!) so if he plasters, I think he'd do a good job. No is 07985 442 531.

We have had a mouse problem in 2 different houses that we've lived in in Wimbledon.

The only thing that worked for us was a sonic repeller (we got one from Robert Dyas). We tried mouse traps with chocolate spread, peanut butter, chocolate, smelly cheese, ham, the works! Nothing worked until we got the sonic repeller.

I bought the ultrasonic device that a previous poster had mentioned. I'll keep you posted on its effectiveness :)

We had a terrible mouse problem a couple of years ago. We tried everything from the plug in devices, to traps laden with peanut butter, nutella, cheese etc, sticky strips, and even got the council in who laid poison. We filled every hole in the house with wire wool and expanding foam, and covered all airbricks with grills. All to no avail - they were everywhere! After waking up one morning to find one particularly brave mouse sharing my pillow, we decided to get a cat! We found a beautiful kitten via Gumtree. Within a week she had caught her first - and last - mouse. We haven't seen another one since! Good luck.

I had mice in my first floor flat and found the sonic plugs which emit a high pitched sound not audible to humans which the mice don't like have been quite effective, I haven't seen the mouse or droppings since I started to use them.

I bought them because I was in a hardware shop looking for poison when another customer told me to try them. They had worked well for her, she had tried everything including poison.

I can also highly recommend the ultrasonic plug ins.

We have a flat which had awful mouse problems about 18 months ago - we did the whole wire wool thing in all the nooks and crannies but the ground floor flat was full of holes but couldnt be bother getting anything fixed - which meant the hairy little fellows were still getting in to the building.

I ordered a couple of the ultrasonic things from Amazon. we plugged one in on the communal stairway and one in the kitchen

We havent a had any little visitors since. Best £60 i've spent in a long time!

order mouse traps from screwfix online, put Snikers in the bate, only a very small piece and make sure its secure so they dont run off with it not getting caught

Yuk! You poor thing. Sounds like their must be a nest nearby, we found one under some decking in our old house, once it had been pulled up (we had a patio laid) the problem disappeared. I'd probably call Rentokill, or the council even - if only for advice.

Good Luck!
