Sani Resort, Greece Post Reply

Has anyone been? We're thinking of booking for the week commencing 28 September 2013.

A few specific questions:
- will it still be warm at this time of year? Don't need it boiling but the ability to sunbathe would be nice!!
- we're looking at the Beach Hotel and can't decide whether to go for interconnecting double rooms or a suite, kids will be 18 months and 3 years old.
- is it worth paying for full board, or is it better to just do half board and pick up lunch depending on how hungry you are?
- is there a supermarket near-by that you can pick up a few groceries as I've heard the resort shop is astronomical.
- who have people booked with?

Not sure about temperature sorry!

We went to the Sani Beach Club 2 years ago. We did HB. Loved the resort, the service was delightful, reminiscent of the amazing hospitality previously experienced in the Far East and really made us feel like everyone genuinely wanted us to have a fantastic holiday. Unlike Elounda in Crete where we felt like everyone just wanted to see how much money they could make out of us and not really bothered about whether we enjoyed our holiday or not.

Having said that the lunches are expensive and we had twin 2 year olds at the time and they both ate like sparrows or not at all and the hotel did charge per head for the buffet which made the cost of one mouthful ridiculous! so maybe FB a better option.

We had a suite with cots for the twins and a sofa bed for our 4 year old and it worked really well. We did have to persuade them that the dimensions of the room could do this!

We booked direct with hotel and went Easyjet to Thessaloniki which also made the trip less pricey and the hotel provided a car free of charge from the airport (we needed 2 because of 3 children).

I dont remember there being a local village nearby to get better value water etc. The Marina has a shop but as the marina is owned by the resort maybe the prices will be set by them.

I hope this is of some help - it may have changed since we were there!

Hi!

We went to the Sani resort last year for 10 days at the end of August. We stayed in the Sani Beach Club which seemed a bit more chilled than the Beach Hotel. That said it was during the school holidays so the Beach Hotel was filled to capacity, so this may not be the case at the end of Sept.
The beach hotel is within walking distance to the marina, whereas you have to get a minibus to the marina from the beach club. The service is very good, but tricky if you are out in the evening and trying to get kids to snooze in their pushchairs and transfer them back to cots / beds later.

The weather was fantastic when we were there. Very hot, but a dry heat so not humid at all.
The sea was clean, very calm and safe, perfect for our baby (6 mths old at the time)
The baby went to nursery each afternoon & loved it (as did the parents!!) The staff were brilliant. The kids club looked great too & the children seemed to be off having amazing adventures every day.

The staff in the hotel were friendly and obliging and spoke excellent English. We had a problem with our room and it was solved immediately. The vast majority of the staff were from Rumania, Bulgaria and Russia, not too many Greeks working there it seemed to us.
The guests are from all over Europe, with the largest group coming from Russia and second largest from the UK I had the impression.

The food in the restaurant was fine, fresh and tasty but nothing amazing. Just something to know in advance if you are very fussy (my other half is). We went half board, but found the food we paid for ourselves was incredibly expensive and pretty ordinary - more expensive than London. If you get a good deal on full board it might be worth considering.

When we were there they had a wasp infestation which was terrible and put a real downer on the holiday. Although none of us were stung, it was such a worry with the baby and was almost impossible to eat outdoors. Apparently it was not resort specific but a problem in that region of Greece. You should definitely make sure that they have dealt with this problem before you book.

The shop in the resort was really expensive, but we did not leave the resort so am unaware if there is a supermarket nearby.

Gorgeous place! We loved it, but extremely expensive. I didn't even know about the beach resort until we got there - summer 2011. I had researched into somewhere we could go after a week sightseeing in Athens. Sani seemed ideal - white sand, sea which stays shallow a long way out, beautiful marina, little fishing villages to explore & eat at in the evening & most importantly where the Greeks go on holiday.
We flew from Athens to Thessaloniki & picked up a hire car at the airport. We stayed in a lovely villa with a swimming pool on the hill behind the beach & walked down to the public beach each day, which is next to the resort beach. Having our own car meant we could drive to the beach if the children decided they wanted to bring every inflatable & bucket & spade with them, plus we could explore a bit & buy food from a supermarket rather than from any of the shops around the marina. The only way to get to a supermarket is through having your own car or hiring a taxi. Sani is just residential, holiday villas, the marina, the beach & Sani Beach Resort.
Not sure about Sani, but holidaying in Greece elsewhere I always reckon that by about the end of August you need a jumper on if you are eating outside in the evening so better check on actually sunbathing at the end of September.

Hi we went to sani mid sept last year. The weather was coolish, low 20s however the day we left it warmed up.. The resort is great, the food is good, the service is good and all in all is brill for kids. The one drawback and reason why I would never go back was the wasp issue which someone previously highlighted. They were so bad that I couldn't relax at all. I understand that they are worse late aug through to sept but as its a conservation area they are unable to tackle the problem. It's a real shame because otherwise it really would be the perfect holiday destination!

It'll cost £50 a day for all of us to upgrade from HB to FB. My boys have HUGE appetites. Would lunch for the 4 of us cost this much if we were paying?

Ok, when you say 'wasp problem', how bad do you mean? We were considering Sani but I LOATHE wasps...

Hi 50 pounds a day should just about cover off your lunch. We just made our own sandwiches for lunch because after a big breakfast and dinner it was all we wanted.
Re the wasps, if you loathe them then check with the resort when they are particularly bad. They were awful in September and to be honest it ruined my holiday. I couldn't even go to the beach as they were everywhere and lots of people got stung. If they don't bother you too much then maybe it wouldn't be an issue. We travelled in a big group and all said there was no way we would return ! Sorry!!
