European holiday ideas please - with 10 month old baby

Postby NickyA » Tue Mar 19, 2013 9:58 am

I’m looking for a good (not huge) European hotel (ideally Greece but open to other countries) for a holiday in June – my husband and I will be taking our baby who will be 10 months by then.

I’ve looked at the MW/ClubMed/Neilson options but a lot of the hotels are very big and very geared up to lots of children. Given we only have one baby I’m keen to go somewhere which isn’t overrun with kids and too big (our time will come for that type of holiday, but for now I want to make the most of a bit more flexibility and hold on to a bit of luxury and the atmosphere found in smaller hotels, which we are used to!). We obviously need it to be baby friendly, and near a beach with a pool too. Needs to be a direct flight with relatively short transfer. Any recommendations gratefully received. It’s possible that we are in denial and will end up going down the MW etc route, but just wanted to check we’re not missing anything. Thanks!

Have you looked at www.totstoo.com ? They have lots of luxury family friendly options though some may be bigger than you would like. Personally I recommend Martinhal on the algarve. It's not Greece obviously but it has a stylish grown up feel, especially in the hotel itself (though the villas are lovely if you want your own facilities).

I went to the Almyra in Cyprus with my 6 month baby last September.

They have a baby-go-lightly service so you can get toys, steriliser, high chairs all provided so you don't need to bring. They'll even get you nappies / food but i found this expensive.

There is a creche on site staffed by english qualified and speaking girls.

Its a design hotel but very family friendly so i felt like it was the best of both worlds. That said i think it would be a different experience in the school holidays as it would have a lot more children.
