Home schooling for an 11/12 year old

Do you know anyone who home schools their children in the local area?

My son has not been offered a secondary state school for September 2013 if he is not offered a place I will have no option but to home school him. I would be interested in speaking to anyone who home schools their children in the local area about the pros and cons.
