Potholes (sp?) - am i the only one?

Postby supergirl » Tue Apr 09, 2013 11:50 am

To find that the situation is really getting worst???? :o

Everywhere and not just Wandsworth - although the situation is pretty bad in wandsworth...

Does anyone know if they have planned to do something?

Thanks.

There was a recent news story (April 4) in the Wandsworth Guardian saying there were 900 potholes unprepared in Wandsworth - and that is just the reported ones! We have had a couple of bad winters and budgets have been cut so I'm not surprised. However, they are a hazard. I badly sprained my ankle twisting it down a pothole I didn't see when crossing the road and our car had one wheel damaged by a pothole. I've noticed that some potholes stay unrepaired for a long time. Best thing to do is report them when you see them but there's so many - who has the time for that?

AS MGMidget has already mentioned the number of potholes etc....I noticed that you can report then online to Wandsworth at the following link:

http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/forms/form ... et_defects

So I decided to try it out and whether it was my reported incident or not, the one that I mentioned was filled in about 3 weeks later. It may of course have been reported by someone else.
The trouble is that when you report them online you don't get a case number.

Have filled in a subsequent one 2 weeks ago and will wait and see if those get filled in.

Good idea is to keep reporting them and chase up the council.
If nothing happens...get some soil and sow a sunflower seed...see if that grows before the pothole is filled in

We had a huge one in our road - i.e very deep.

I am in Lambeth and I reported it. They said it was the first report they had. They did send inspectors out that day but it didn't get filled for 3 months.

There are some great potholes on Mallinson, Shelgate and most of the roads off Northcote Road. Complete joke but good fun on a mountain bike ... trying to find the Brightside ... pun intended Paul Martin ... get your shovel out ... but leave me a couple for doing stunts and bunny hops!

we have damaged two wheels on potholes in the last 12 months, both times was after rain and the potholes were filled with water and so it wasnt clear how large and deep they were .The potholes are definetely worst some are outrageous and extremely Dangerous in both size and Depth. The big problem is how poorly they are repaired, its more temporary till next winter than a permanent fix. What is needed is the roads to be properly resurfaced, a gradual programme across the Borough ( or even City ,Boris ! ) ;)

I reported one on our street a couple of weeks ago and it has now been filled
I also saw them doing other potholes in the neighbourhood today - this is in Wandsworth

Worth reporting them imho

@petal

I take it you mean the wooden fences around the park as opposed to the metal fences around the courts themselves? The tennis court fence is in good condition. It would be even better if people didn't kick footballs against it as that knocks out the clips that holds the panels together.

If you mean the cricket nets well that is a complete mess and the fault of the installers who used inferior materials.

I have seen the council contractors planting new street trees this week so maybe your hole will get one

Why was a car on the footpath?

Tomandtoby

Makes me grateful for once that we live in Lambeth not Wandsworth as far as councils are concerned. But you don't pay half the Council Tax that we do for nothing I guess (I'm not even sure Council Tax pays for road repairs anyway so please don't take it personally).

The real irony is not the damage to cars (expensive and inconvenient as it is) so much as the very real danger to cyclists caused by these monster pot holes in Wandsworth when so much is being spent by councils on encouraging us to get on our bikes with cycle routes and even Boris's bikes have headed south of the river.

Keep harassing and shaming Wandsworth Council is the only way I think as mentioned by previous posters. Good luck.
