Neilson vs Mark Warner v Club Med

Postby sw11_ » Thu Mar 14, 2013 10:42 am

Hi - does anyone have direct experience of any of these holiday companies for a summer holiday with a toddler? I'm trying to book a trip with one of them but they all get quite mixed trip advisor reviews, especially for their very basic hotel rooms and tired facilities. Any direct experience would be much appreciated.

Neilson seem to be slightly more upmarket (is that right?) although also seem to be more like activity holidays rather than focused on catering for young families who just want to hang by the pool and kids club.

Would love some feedback from people in the know...

Thanks!

You beat me to it with your post as I too am looking at all 3 for a holiday in early/mid Sept once the schools go back for myself, my husband & our son who will be 26 months old by then.

Any suggestions on where to go gratefully received :)

Hi there, we did three Mark Warner holidays with our two before they started school. We loved every holiday. We went twice to Lakitira on Kos. Great kids clubs, food was good, lovely setting with 2 pools (one more family, one quieter) and you could do as much or as little as you liked without feeling any pressure. Kids went to clubs, I read by the pool and husband did sailing/windsurfing. Would highly recommend. Rooms were newly done and were nice. Afraid I can't comment on the other two companies.

Big hint from me - go on these kinds of holidays before your child starts school. After that, the prices are reaaallllly high! :o

NYE it does sound nice - how do you decide between the 4 different hotels within the resort?

We've just booked our 4th MW summer holiday! We've always been in September when it's been significantly cheaper. We're returning to Levante beach this year as was so good last year. The main reason we keep going back is the child-care, it is brilliant. We always come back feeling like we've actually had a break.
They run an evening crèche with a video for the toddlers and travel cots for the babies so we have dinner a deux every night.
My husband likes to join in the activities, I like to read a book by the pool, it works for us!

Depending on where exactly you'd like to go, I would recommend Club Med with a Toddler club.
Kids love it, they are together during the day, doing all sorts of activities, they are independent yet taking looked after by trained . In most cases you wouldn't have to pay any extra fees for your kids activity, since everything in inclucled in club Med resorts.
Check their website where you can run a research by type and see if there is any the kids friendly Club that might suit your family

Thanks for the last few posts. What about the comments I've seen that club med and mw are a bit rough around the edges. Is that fair? As our main summer holiday we were hoping for somewhere with a slightly luxury feel.

Thanks

I can highly recommend MW. We have been on both ski and summer holidays with them, even before having our little one! The childcare is fantastic (put it this way when I asked my friend (who's worked in lots of different nurseries in the UK over the last 15 years and done a season in Greece with MW) how do I choose a nursery she had replied that she'd have concerns about most nurseries in the UK BUT would leave her child at any MW one! And having left my little one at three diferent MW ones I'd have to agree. And having the childcare in the evening option as well means you can actually have a grown-up meal out!

Choosing a resort can be tricky and I have to agree that some are a little more dated than others and the food can be quite samey! But if you want a bit of luxury then I'd definitely recommend their Rhodes resort. We went there last October and it was lovely - only caveat to that is that we went there as my partner is a big windsurfing fan but there wasn't much wind (and the staff had said it had been a similar story all season!) - so if this is what you're after then you might need to look at their other resorts. We are hoping to go to Lemnos (their new one) September time.
