Baby swimming courses

Postby dancing_queen59 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 2:11 pm

I have a 9 week old and really want to get her into a baby swimming course. I didn't get the oppourtunity with my twins so would like to do it this time round.

Little Dippers is fully booked till July and so is London baby swim and I'm not that keen on doing Water Babies at Latchmere, have I missed any other ones?

We did Waterlife Swim School at Alderbrook - We had Lizzie as our teacher and she is fab but all her teachers are very good. My son is now 2 and we have moved onto the bigger pool at Morden.

Really hoping I can get my son into a morning playgroup so I can take my new baby daughter to these classes as they were my favourite time of the week with my son.

You can try the Clapham Leisure centre. They have classes starting from 3 months of age and the place is new....not to mention really good value.

Our son goes there and loves it.

Clapham Leisure Centre on Clapham Manor Street TOTS1 class at 9am on Wednesday morning, still some room and very nice class. I have started with my little Emma when she was 13 weeks (it is recommended to get the 3 immunisations before starting swimming).
All the mummies are very relax and the teacher is brilliant. The pool and infrastructure is brand new with heated floor (nothing compared to Latchmere), it is perfect!
Hope it helps!

Thanks so much for this information!

What are the classes really like at Clapham leisure centre? I used to take my twins with somebody else to Latchmere leisure centre and didn't find the classes very good there. All we used to do was basically sing songs in a circle which is all good and all that but I'm really looking for somewhere that teaches submersion into the water etc etc. do they do this kind of thing at Clapham leisure centre?

Slowly but surely they are getting there…we are going under the water, the lessons are different than water babies but even though we are as well singing songs here, I have the impression that it is done in a better manner.
However, I am not looking for “deep" swimming lessons as I just want the basics. I have done that with my first one and then after went swimming just with her on my own and as she got used to the water and the feeling she has always been loving it.

I would also definitely recommend Waterlife Swim school, Lizzie has classes in Balham, Morden and other areas in SW London & Surrey.

She is a local lady, based in Earlsfield, has run the Waterlife swim school for many years and remains passionate. My son and I love the classes - he is now 2 and we've been since he was 12 weeks...

We have also used Water Life Swim School for both our kids (Son, now aged 3 and Daughter aged 1). Both kids are now unbelievably confident in the water. We have done classes at Alderbrook on a Saturday morning with Claire and couldn't be happier with the results. Would definitely recommend.

Good Luck

If you are looking for classes for your 9 week old we run a lovely Floaties class (0-6months) on a Wednesday in Balham Leisure centre or a Friday and Saturday morning at Broadwater Primary school in Tooting.

Classes are relaxed with gentle activities to get your baby used to the water and you used to handling your baby in the water. We build through the programme to teach water safety and water confidence.

To book in for a free trial class and to find out more please contact us on
