Nursery vs nanny cost

Postby EJT2012 » Wed Apr 17, 2013 6:05 pm

Hi all
I'm looking to go back to work at the end of July for 3 days a week and I will need childcare whilst at work.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of what I should expect to pay for a nursery and what the approximate cost would be for a nanny?

Any advice/tips gratefully received!!

Hello,

In regards to Nanny costs to be accurate it would depend on the hours involved. As a rough guide a good nanny with good experience and references will be around £10-12per hour net. If you need 10 hours a day this would therefore be around £100net per day. We always advise employers to understand the full gross annual salary that this would equate to and again as a guide depending on tax codes etc you would be looking at paying £400gross per week(for 3 days) making a total of £19K gross per annum. On top of this there is also employers national insurance to consider (another £30 per week).

We can't comment on what actual local nurseries charge but hopefully this helps on the Nanny front. However we can state that nannies are financially beneficial when there are two or more children as nurseries do charge per child. Therefore it is worth looking for a Nanny share if you currently only have one child to share the costs.

All our Nannies are personally interviewed, reference checked, with DBS disclosures (formerly CRB) and selected to match your needs. If we can be of any further help please do not hesitate to contact us direct.

All the best!

Nurseries in the Nappy valley area are appearing everywhere showing that there must be an uptake in this type of Childcare.
WPPA a Wandsworth based voluntary organisation have some great nurseries under its umbrella. All nurseries are non-profit with qualified and experienced Childcare practitioners. For full time places which is 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday 50 weeks a year a general guide is 280.00 a week. The rent on the premises does reflect the price. There are also many private nurseries in the area where you may need to add 60-100 extra.
I am aware this is a big desision. its great to talk to people to get feedback, look at OFSTED reports, check staff turnover, key person structure but I beleive that you get that "this is the right place/person for my Child" gut feeling when you walk through a door or meet a Nanny.
I wish you all the best with your choice
