Chinese takeaway

Postby zaarin_2003 » Thu Sep 06, 2012 8:23 pm

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good Chinese takeaway in the Clapham/Battersea area please? I've tried Wok Wok but find them a bit hit and miss.

Thanks!

Matt

We love Yumea's on Battersea Rise. The food is always fresh and not overloaded with sauce or salt. And Lou the owner is great!

Good Earth, it is fresh and tasty!

They have actually just opened a restaurant on Bellevue Road which I am very keen to try!

Their number is 020 8682 9230. Can't wait to go there myself - had a look through the window on Saturday and it looks v smart. We love their delivery food - a bit pricey and not overly large portions, but by far the best Chinese food we've had delivered, not bland at all, no trace of msg.

Agree Good Earth is both pricey and tasty but beware they do actually use MSG. We got a delivery from the St Johns Hill branch last week and asked if they did use MSG to which they said they did but could quite happily prepare all our dishes MSG-free. Was still just as tasty.

TXMum, we gave Yumea a go based on this and have since had it 3 times in a week. Really great tip, thanks so much! Our bank balance wishes we hadn't discovered it though...

I'm so glad you love it! We have takeout Tuesdays over here and it's never a question of what were going to get. It helps that they're so friendly too!

When we lived off Lavender Hill, Mr Liu's Chinese take away on Lavender Hill itself was an institution (located about half way along LH on Common side). Extremely unprepossessing shop but fabulous, genuine unpretentious Chinese food.

If they are still there....give them a go!

We really like GC Kitchen on Hildreth in Balham. They deliver so getting it to you shouldn't be a problem. I haven't been a fan of Chinese food in the past but their dishes taste very fresh and are flavourful as well so we've made them an almost weekly staple. :)

Is there a certain dish Yumea specialize in? I've tried it twice now and pretty disappointed both times. I normally get my chinese from Good Earth which is expensive but amazing. I was hoping to find a cheaper version but I guess you get what you pay for!

Oh, sorry to hear you found it disappointing. I'm a huge fan of their Malaysian butter prawn starter, and the Malaysian sambal and their house chow mein too. My mouth is watering just thinking of it!

I must say we got their chilli beef once and I found that inedible but everything else I've ever had from there has been brilliantly cooked and delicious.

I've never tried Good Earth but think I will given the recommendations!

We've had a couple of bad batches, but on nights when it wasn't our regular takeaway night, so I think they have one cook who is not so good.
We love the Yumea chow mein, Singapore noodles, and schezuan beef.
