Good games for 5 years plus

Postby Medway » Sat Jul 27, 2013 8:46 am

Can anyone recommend some good card/ board games for 5 year olds? We are a bit beyond the Orchard Toys games now, but really enjoy playing games on holiday. We have Uno which we are getting there with, any other suggestions for games Year 1-3 children enjoy?

My parents recently bought our daughter monopoly junior where you get to buy parties instead of streets, a huge hit! Also UNO is always a great hit for all ages.

Hope this helps

I have a 5 year old and a just 3 year old and we've just been given a game called Pictureka! Which is a fold out mat with lots of pictures on it and you choose one of three spinners (one is easier) and spin to choose a picture then everyone has to try and be the first to find it. I think that might be a family winner. Orchard games do one called Post the Most which is still within my 5yo interest level, my 3yo can manage and doesnt bore me quite to tears. Also we've had a Maisy number card game for a while which has increasing difficulty and my 3yo can join in with the simplest version. Happy Families and dominoes go down well and travel easily. Also I was bought a great (grown up) strategy game called Carcassone which my husband and I love and he is currently playing with our 5yo! (Leave out the farmers with kids). That's all I can think of for now...

There's a child version of Pit which my 6 yr old adores (lots of shouting !), also a game called Exact Change (from fun learning) has been great, can't beat Top Trumps at that age too. Plus Uno as above, and picturereka (board game). She still loves snakes & ladders, and a really simple game called Bus Stop and Party, Party (on a similar theme). We have drawers full, family fun !! :)

Junior monopoly, snakes and ladders, animal dominoes and Top Trumps dinosaurs and marvel heroes are favourites for my five year old boy. I also got a cheap pack of Scooby Doo cards from Primark which are quite good!
