Breastfeeding question - advice please!

Postby millymoo » Wed Aug 07, 2013 10:14 am

I would like to start winding down breastfeeding my 15 month old daughter as she is still up in the night quite frequently and I am working full time and finding it all rather exhasting. She is a very good eater, no health problems but has never really taken to milk apart from in a beaker. I don't have any concerns about whether she needs to feed during the night, I just think she wakes up wanting some attention!
Would be interested to hear any thoughts on how to transition to stopping breastfeeding as easily/naturally as possible - my eldest daughter self-weaned one day at around 13 months so nothing to go on from previous experience.

Hi there

Slightly different timing wise as I weaned my daughter off b/f at 4 months however I did it by dropping one feed every 4/5 days and I didn't have any problems.

My little one also used to wake at about 5am (again she was a lot younger!) and one night I decided not to go in and literally within minutes she had settled herself. I think it becomes habit for them but a few nights of doing this and she didn't wake again at 5!

I'm not sure what the guidelines are on milk intake at 15 months (we haven't got there yet!) but I would assume that if she's getti plenty of dairy in her diet and a good eater that you could move onto cows milk or formula out of a beaker.

Good luck!
