I did my son's birthday party in Eat, Play, Love and he loved it. The entertainer was excellent and the area is great.

I know the owners of EPL, so have a word with them. It is hard work and they are yet to make a profit.

However, it worries me that some mums want to read and not pay attention to little ones. It is a Cafe play, not a crèche.

Brilliant, my family would definitely use it! Something similar to Eat Play Love or Betty Boo's would be fantastic :D

Off topitc, but for the person who asked how Under the Greenwood Tree (Clapham Old Town) is doing, it seems to be going strong. Lovely selection of toys and books; good coffee and cakes; friendly staff. Only downside is I spend more money than I plan to when I'm there - books etc just too tempting.

I would LOVE a new play-cafe on the Northcote rd.

I agree that it will be best if the toys are looked after and if there is something for older children too, but really it would just be great to have somewhere to take the children when its too rainy to go to the common.

If there's space, I'd highly recommend having a slide and a ball pit - the one at latchmere keeps kids happy for ages!

Sounds like a good idea. Check out That Place on the Corner in Newington Green. They seem to be doing well.

Please please do it! Now the 1oclock clubs have shut it's going to be harder to find things to do for our little ones in the winter. I appreciate what others are saying but focussing on the positive, if you do something similar to Its a Kids Thing i think it would make a killing around here. A good soft play, a good cafe with good, healthy food, nice and clean and as somebody says, with a good selection of classes, birthday parties etc. I wish you lots of luck and i would DEFINITELY support you!

The rents on Webbs Road would be cheaper than Northcote Rd and runs parallel to it, so you could look there to save on overheads. I personally think it is a fabulous idea, all the best x

I also think it is a great idea and would definitely come especially in winter. Maybe you can introduce a form of membership which would give discounts on drinks and food? Good luck and I can't wait to see it happening!

A business that I would love to see would be one that does a healthy kids tea every day. You could just do one, or maybe two dishes, like cottage pie, or chicken in some tasty sauce, as long as you do something different every day and it would have to appeal to older children after school as well as younger ones. A frequent topic of conversation among my mummy friends of older (7 plus) kids is how much we hate cooking two dinners. They're past the nursery grub stage, but husbands come in too late for them to stay up to have a family dinner. Ergo, somewhere we could just pop into and they could have their tea and I don't have to cook twice would be very very welcome!

On a more general level, I think if you're going to do this you need to serve really good food and drinks. Many cafes fail because the food and coffee is just not up to scratch. Munchkin Lane frequently ran out of food by 9.30am. I once asked for toast and marmalade and they didn't even have any marmalade! There was a cafe where Cath Kidstone is now which was popular with mums as it was kid-friendly but the food and drink were pretty dire. Crumpet started off well but went downhill. Look at Brew if you want inspiration. It's always packed. Mums have tastebuds too and you need to be serving delicious coffee and yummy food, you need good, pleasant staff and you need to keep the place clean. Crumpet's tables were permanently sticky and disgusting by the end and although I loved it when it first opened, they didn't maintain their standards. The Boiled Egg and Soldier was always very popular - more so than Tamra, although it may have been because it had such a cute name.

I hope you succeed but please pay attention to your standards. Northcote Road has many so-so eateries but is crying out for something a bit classier. Head off to the achingly trendy areas around Shoreditch and Brick Lane to see what I mean.

Hi, I 'm an italian chef and pastry chef, plus I have beencatering and cooking for clients in the past 4 years in Rome Italy, just relocated in the area. I also am a cake decorator and have been making birthdays parties for many years. If u are looking for someone to cook fresh, quick and healthy dishes appealing both to mums and children please get in touch. I could show u my portfolio and give u all the references needed. I would love to cook in a place like this, for kids and mums (being a mum myself) and provide the best food ever!
