Great Playgroup for Toddlers Balham! Post Reply

There's a great little playgroup in Balham at St James's Community Centre in Ouseley Road called Little Starlings. It runs in the mornings and gives Mums 2hours of sanity time! It's for 2-4 year olds, I sent my oldest there 2 years ago, and am waiting for number 2 to be old enough to join them! I wanted to give them a shout out because I have heard they still have spaces free this term, and I think it's because people don't know about them - otherwise I am convinced they would be full! A lovely lady called Lisa runs it and it's small and safe and friendly and fun. It was a perfect introduction for my first son who started at Little Starlings 6months before going to full-time nursery. I think I love it because it is just like the little playgroups my sisters and I used to go to when we were little! It feels like a proper village playgroup. Anyway I couldn't recommend it highly enough - they do great little arts and crafts activities with them everyday, it's the ideal gentle start for any little person... Check it out Mummies!!

Hi there midwifemummy13!

We have currently dropped our session prices for the first 6 weeks to a fantastic £12 per session. Normally sessions are £17!

Do come by and see us one morning. We currently have sessions running on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning and really hope to increase up to 4 days a week again soon!!!

Sorry you feel that way but wanted to make you aware it is a drop off pre school and compared to many in the area we are very reasonably priced

It's not at all expensive! My little girl went for about a year and it was a godsend to drop her off there for a couple of hours when my second came along.

They are not just a playgroup. They taught my daughter all sorts of crafts, songs, numbers, vital social skills such as hanging up her coat on her peg, washing hands, recognising her written name, stuff that makes settling in to nursery school so much easier. They also have lots of fun playing, cooking, growing things!!

There are similar set-ups BTC which charge around the £25 mark for a 2 hour session so I always considered £17 extremely reasonable. £12 is an absolute bargain. You will not find anything else even close to £6ph!

If we hadn't have moved my second would have definitely joined Lisa and her team.

There is a similar playgroup opening BTW which also offers a great introduction to nursery and preschool.

Little Learners is based off Broomwood Road and runs sessions from 9.30-12 Mon - Fri for children aged from 18 months.

We are OFSTED registered and all our staff are fully qualified.
