Cost effective ski holidays?!!!

Postby 2010emilie1 » Tue Sep 17, 2013 11:21 pm

Hi ladies,

Can anyone recommend a cost effective ski holiday company?

As we can only go during school holidays and that prices are sky high then, I would welcome recommendations of companies with reasonable prices.

Many thanks

Emilie1 :)

Hi there,

We went to Tignes with Mark Warner and it was absolutely brilliant, would highly recommend. They have great last minute deals too.

Depends if you want childcare or not, or if you want catered or not.

Erna Low or La Grange are good for self catered properties
The Family Ski Company in Ardent / Les Coches are at the cheaper end of the family companies

Or, search for the "one man band" chalets - those that are owner run and operated and don't include flights. These guys will possibly give you a better price if you are looking for catered. Morzine / Les Gets is great for families and there are lots of one/two chalet companies there.

If you want help, try Ski Solutions or Alpine Answers - they are both agents and can search the market for you. They don't cost you more - they work on commission from the chalet company that you travel with.

Esprit / Mark Warner are the big players in the childcare market and will be able to help tho!

Hi there, kitting out the family in skiwear can be very expensive. So if you want to keep the costs down then please visit us - www.skiderouge.com. We can kit out your whole family for much cheaper than on the high street, either in new or second hand skiwear. And you can book in an appointment with the entire family at a time to suit you.
Have a lovely holiday!

All the posts above are good ones but the phrase "cost effective" is almost an oxymoron when it comes to skiing and even more so at half term. Depending on your budget there's no doubt that "all inclusive" either with a chalet or an operator like Club Med would offer the best value.

However beyond that then the resort and country can have a massive effect on budgets. Depending on the level of your skiing then places like Bulgaria, Slovenia can work. Andorran prices have rocketed since joining the Euro.

Even within France if you avoid the Tarantaise and mid Alps there are good value resorts like Vars, Isola 2000 in the south and Trois Ballon in the north around Belfort.

The ski show at Olympic is week after next. That's a great place for nailing down a bargain. Looking for the Ski Olympic stand, mention my name and they'll offer you a good price. I worked 6 seasons for them.

Happy hunting!
