Could you write for children?

Postby Writerlady » Thu Oct 03, 2013 10:39 pm

Now i know there are lots of very clever people out there in Nappy Valley so before I start to trawl the agents looking for writers, i thought i'd ask all of you! I work for a large well-known publisher and i am looking for new writers. I am not looking for the new Harry Potter or people's own stories to publish, but am looking for great writers who can write to commission, within tight guidelines, for a fee (not large!)

Maybe you have written for children before? Maybe you'd like to give it go? Maybe you are a journalist, or have written for adults? Or you could be a copywriter?

It's fiction, pre-school generally, based around well-known children's characters. Perhaps adapting a tv script into a story or creating a story around existing characters.

Please pm me if you would like to write a sample, unpaid i'm afraid, but prob just a hundred words or so, to a brief.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Hello there,

I work with children and have a wild imagination, I would love the chance to try my hand at this. I do have some stories I have written for my own children when they were young. :P

I look forward to hearing from you!

Also, I have a very clever 21 year old daughter ( Law degree) and she has just returned from working at Camp America, where she tells me she had to come up with different story for children each night! I'm sure she could write one or two down too.

Thank you in advance,

Cinderella x

Thanks mrssmith and watermancinders for your replies but as I said in my post, I am not looking for new stories, I am looking for people who can write text to commission, following an existing brief, based on existing well-known characters, to a specific word count. Do message me (or reply here) if you'd still like to have a go!

Thanks very much to all the people who have messaged me - I will reply asap and hope to send out a brief for your sample early next week. I guessed there was an abundance of talented people out there, and I was right!

Anyone else? Trying to winkle out every light hiding under a bushel in Nappy Valley!

Hi,

I'm very interested! I'm a Journalist and Writer by trade and also write poetry, short stories and children's stories in my free time.

I should also add I'm a mum to two small children aged 2.5 and 4 months.

My toddler often gets the tale end of my slightly wild imagination as I'm always telling her stories about why she shouldn't do 'such and such...because a little girl called Amy ran across the road...'

Please check out my website: wwww.pollyclarkson.com

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi. I am en ex-journalist and have written for both print and television across a broad range of subjects. I now have three children aged 4, 9 and 11 and think I have a pretty good understanding of what kind of books/TV really inspire them.
I'd love to hear from you if you are still looking for writers.

Hi there,

I work in TV but have always wanted to write for children in my spare time. I have a 4 year old daughter who asks me to make up stories for her every night - no mean feat! And I have always been told I have a good writing style. If you could get in touch with the brief I would be happy to send you a sample of my writing so that you can consider me for potential future commisions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello there. What an interesting message/ invitation! I'd love to have a go. I'm a former Penguin editor who now works freelance on a range of fiction and non-fiction projects. I'm also used to writing to a brief and for a particular audience through a series of Afterwords I've done for some hardback classics (many of which are children's classics). If it's relevant, I have two young bookworms at home and spend a lot of time reading with them.
Hope hear back from you.
Many thanks, Anna (annasouth@btinternet.com)

Hi,

I'd definitely be interested in hearing more about this.

My background is in children's / teenage / education based TV ... and I've always imagined something like this being my end game!

Could you PM me with more details.

Thanks!
