I agree with Romick. I have slightly complicated US taxes looked into this a few years ago. I was told by a number of tax experts (including E&Y and others here) that it made a lot of sense and would be a lot cheaper to have a US accountant for the US side and, if your UK taxes are complicated, a UK person as well. It's fairly likely that you'll need only the US person, but if you do need both make sure that they are happy to talk with each other if need be and will agree to be sensible and efficient about it all. I have had my US taxes done for over ten years by Paul Horvarth who is a CPA outside of NY city. My mum is a tax lawyer and has thought him sensible and reasonable, for what that is worth.
