Can you recommend a gym?

Postby Azilal10 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 2:56 pm

Hi all

Following surgery earlier in the year, I'm finally at the stage where I can get back into some kind of workout regime. My physio wants me to join a gym, prefereably one with a swimming pool - I have been looking at the Virgin Active Wimbledon North Road, or the Nuffield by King George's Park, Burr Road. Does anyone have any experience/strong opinions on either, the membership fees for what I will need seem to be much of a muchness so I can't even use that as a deciding factor!

Or does anyone know of any other gyms that might be nice?

Many thanks for your thoughts.

Have you thought about Fybre Fitness on Northcote Road? I love the swimpod! Feels more personal than some of the larger places but obviously depends on what you are after :)

I use Virgin Active in Streatham. I don't swim there but they have a decent pool that is always pretty empty during the day

I love the Virgin Active at Smugglers Way.

It's very nice, modern, friendly and good staff and clean! Good classes, daylight, beautiful pool and Wellness area...

Plus: You can park just opp at the B&Q for free up to two hours.

Plus: You can go to nearly all the other gyms too! ...in case you want a creche. because this one is not for kids.... but the Clapham North one has creche and you can bring kids to the pool for around 5 pounds.

Hope this helps a bit....

Hi Jen66
I am a member at puregym on Wandsworth high street, people look down on it because it is cheaper than most but you get so much more for your dollar! There is a personal trainer there called CJ, he specialises in rehab and getting people back on track to reach their goals. I know several people that he has "fixed" where their physios couldn't do much more for them, one lady damaged her hip and was actually booked in for surgery until she started seeing CJ. She just ran the New York marathon which says it all really!! All the other staff there are really helpful & friendly too, if you don't like it you can cancel your membership as it is a month rolling with no contract, hope this helps

I'm pretty sure Fybre fitness have some special deals on membership at the moment.
