Hi New Mum

Firstly, I really recommend that you contact Geraldine Miskin who will help resolve any latch issues you are having before you move onto the bottle full time. Latching problems are becoming more common now, often as a result of the reduced amount of help and conflicting advice they get in the hospitals.

Once you have had a visit from Geraldine, you fill find things will improve vastly. Then, once you have the feeding going better, focus on feeding your little one well, aiming for roughly 20 mins suckling time each side at each feed, and try to get baby settled down to sleep again about 60-80 mins after waking.

At this age, only days old, they need a little encouragement to feed well and they do need huge amounts of sleep and very little stimulation.

Best of luck

Thank you very much for the support and incredibly useful suggestions!
Tried colief and infacol - cannot say if they really help...i also do the winding/sitting him up for a long time...and also tried tilting the cot, it seems to help but not all the time..
Also booked with Geraldine as suggested, i'm really hopeful she can help with breastfeeding!

Forgot to mention that we are already using the Dr Brown bottles.
The HV told me about the colic hold, my DS doesn't seem to like it too much but will persevere...
I am looking into baby osteopathy and chiropractors...is there a difference between these 2?

I try to encourage all my mums to visit an osteopath both post and ante-natally. I take many of my clients' babies to Clapham Osteopathic Practice in North Clapham. Osteopathy works incredibly gently with the body's own membrane to get it working as it should. Stresses and strains on a baby's little frame whilst in the womb and during the birth (be that natural, C-section, forceps or venteuse) can have a knock on effect causing feeding problems, wind, gut discomfort and generalised twisting.

The pressure applied to you baby is never heavier than resting a 5p piece on them.

If you wanted to discuss exactly what is involved in a treatment, do give Elizabeth Kane or Kerry Anderson a call at the practice - they would be more than happy to allay any worries you have.

Good luck!

Oh - and as an add-on to my previous comment - I seldom have had to take a baby more than 2-3 times for treatment for any one particular issue. :D
