After over 30 years on Northcote Road, the time has come to announce the sad news that All Good Gifts is closing down on the 5th August 2017. A combination of a 50% Rent increase, extorniate High Street Business Rates, Brexit (grr), Paperchase (double grr) & the creep of Amazon & the like has just made running an independent, family-run, local gift shop unsustainable in the current climate.

We'd love to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all our customers over the years, its bee a joy to serve you - we'd love to see you all to say goodbye before you disappear on holidays & take advantage of 50% off everything in store (please save me from having to ebay it all off one by one!)

We'll being rejigging our website http://www.allgoodgifts.co.uk soon to continue with our own brand cards, and some nice bits from our favourite suppliers & hopefully we'll be back at the Northcote Road Christmas Fair with some Christmas goodies!

Thanks from all of us at All Good Gifts xxx

All Good Gifts .... So sad to see you go. Another much loved shop to disappear from Northcote Road for ever. It's not far off being unrecognisable but with the combination of factors you explained it is hardly surprising that our local, independent shops just can't afford to stay on the street. I really try to support the independents but the forces out there are just too strong. We will all be the poorer in the long run with a road full of chain shops selling just the same things as you can buy on any high street up and down the country. Will definitely be checking out your website - love the cards you introduced. Good luck with it all.

Good luck from me too  . I bought lots of excellent cards from you for my very-difficult-to-buy-cards-for Mum, because she seemed to find the funniest ones first! I'm really interested to know who owns the shops that charge the rents? Are they private landlords who bought the shops decades ago, who don't live in the area and just want to squeeze as much profit out as possible? Also, when will they realise that Northcote Road is not Regents Street or the Kings Road and if they keep making it impossible for small businesses to make money that they will just turn people off from going to Northcote Road.

So sorry to see All Good Gifts close. Another victim of its success - shops like this made Northcote Road what it is (or was) and the people who benefit from their hard work are the greedy landlords who just want more and more. Now it's gone the way of Dandelion, the Northcote Patisserie, la Cuisiniere and all the other little shops that made the road such an exciting place when I first walked down it in the early 90s.

This really is unfortunate. I never heard a bad word spoken about All Good Gifts. Bought loads of stuff there over the years - a real community asset. What with two independent book shops, one butcher, a barber, the fishmonger (ok he's still there with a small market stall), health food shop, wine merchants, small supermarket, café(s) and probably many more outlets, the heart is being stripped out of the street.

At the risk of sounding like a smart arse, I predicted this many years ago - that Northcote Road would end up looking like the King's Road (SW3) - full of expensive or bland chain outlets, robbed of real local character and quirkiness. Such is the ultimate price of gentrification in a free market economy, combined with the difficulty of operating a retail outlet in the online shopping age.

I just hope the Webbs Road independents stay that way.

Apparently Spar is closed for holidays at the moment and then closes for good in October. I've also heard that Buona Sera and Numero Uno will be closing at some point due to increasing rates/rents. Plus Northcuts hairdressers will be moving to Battersea Rise, near the large mobile phone shop. Jacadi (premium children's clothing) has finally opened in the old Printax shop, however, having seen their prices not sure how well they will do even in Nappy Valley.

I think the owner of Buona Sera actually owns the shops ,both the Clapham Junction and the Kings Road one.

I really hope that's true, but even then the temptation to just rent out the premises rather than operating them must be strong.

Fortunately they have resisted so far, and seeing how full the place is whenever I go hopefully means that they'll continue doing so.

Gandy's the clothes shop has just opened where Dove used to be on Northcote Road. This brand is an amazing story set up by two brothers who lost both their parents in the tsunami over 10years ago - they live in Earlsfield I think. They started with flip flops and have now branched out to other casual clothes, beach towels, bags etc. They build schools/orphanages with profits from the brand. I noticed this morning and popped in and they are there to see how it goes for at least 6mths. If anyone buys Havaiana flip flops please consider buying Gandys instead!

Yes sadly we at Northcut’s are moving! We have been in Northcote Road Battersea since 1984! We couldn’t find a suitable premises on Northcote Road but have found a lovely salon on Battersea Rise just across the road from the Northcote road pub! Will keep you posted on when we are moving and hope to see you all in our new salon!
