Labour backs a second referendum! Many in our SW boroughs will be DELIGHTED...

Yes I know, it's all very ambiguous (as per), and requires a great deal of clarification but the direction of travel here is clear.

Though as we do edge ever closer to a People's Vote, there's still much to be done to ensure a fair vote. The franchise needs expanding and the institutions regulating our elections need far more robust and far-reaching powers, as well as campaign advertising on social media needing much more transparency. Hopefully as a consensus for another referendum builds, decent and sensible MPs will concern themselves with how that can be achieved. You sense the hand of Starmer and Watson in today's announcement, which is very encouraging.
I'm also delighted that any delay may allow the National Crime Agency and Met police to conclude their investigations into the Leave campaigns, we need to learn the lessons of this alleged law-breaking to be able to safeguard our democracy in future.

Please no 'you lost' trolls. Electoral fraud, stolen data and dark money (we've still no idea where Banks' £££ came from). People were lied to on an industrial scale and promised entirely undeliverable unicorns. That cr*p won't fly second time around.

Bring on the vote!  :D

What happens if the outcome of a People's Vote is still to leave the EU?

GuyD73 - I am with you. My job disappears in the few months following hard Brexit.

But a referendum is a referendum. Evidence has shown (e.g. in Canada) that where a political party rejects a plebiscite, they will get punished by their own supporters. Or a party that takes voters to the polls twice is annihilated. That is why everyone is so uneasy. Nicola Sturgeon has had to be very careful indeed on this point in Scotland despite a lot of her punters being remain. And also on the second Scottish indyref.

Vote remain made some untrue promises. it was a long time ago but it was something like:- "there will be a mild recession in end of 2016. Food will stop coming before Brexit. Your air ticket goes up in price". All the rest. What happened? Jo Public went shopping to celebrate, doing what the brits do best at Westfield.

I would also note that a great many people are fed up with Brexit. And a small number of people who take the vote personally one way or another. If I were you, GuyD73, I would find a hobby to take up your time or get a ticket out of this country. You heart rate does not need the extra stress. As for me, I drive a left hand drive car now. Save selling it at rock bottom prices on 30th march and buying another one for Europe.

Bon voyage, mes amis !

I'm very glad. Corbyn definitely tried to honour the result of the referendum but I'm pleased with pressure Labour will not accept a no deal Brexit r one that will not work. Not sure if it was necessary for Chukka and co to defect, it's moderate Tories who should be standing up.The Anti Semitism accusations are very nasty. If one criticises Israel that doesn't make you Anti- Semitic in the same criticising Saudi Arabia doesn't make you Islamaphobic but that's a whole different discussion.

As for people saying get a new hobby, as a daughter of an activist, I would say I'm so glad I went to Free Mandela demos and CND rallies as a small child but I didnt really didnt understand at the time. It did shape me as a person but I have my own views ultimately as I grew and i dont see eye to eye wuth dad on many things now. I would have liked dad to do more "normal" dad stuff when I was little and be more present. But my dad was not unusual in Notting hill in those days. Sorry I don't know you but just going by my own experience. Don't over do it and don't fall out with relatives either 😊 My dad still does that and it's quite sad he can't accept other viewpoints.

I do think it's up to the young and child less to get out there and demonstrate and those with grown up children. I fully intend to kick up a stink once my children are older 😁 But I have be realistic, as parents we are time poor and childhood is so short.

Hoping Brexit will never happen, but if does there will a chance to address lots wrong in politics.
