nanny new to Balham looking for groups to join

Postby nannybex » Fri May 27, 2011 1:26 pm

Hi all,

I'm moving to Balham on 25th June to take up a Live-in nanny position. I'll be looking after a 14 month old who sleeps the afternoon away so I'm looking for lots of activities to fill our mornings.

I'd really appreciate people's advice and suggestions on toddler groups, soft play, music groups, gymboree, plus any nice parks/play areas.

Many thanks, in advance!!!

Hi bex, my name is susie and im a new nanny to the balham area too also sole charge live in looking after one lil boy aged 6 mths.

I dont know anyone yet but am really keen to meet other nannies/ mums in the area are u interested in meeting up maybe at a baby group or something?? i start work on the 6th junes but sole charge on the 20th so will be london a lil before u i guess.

regards ur question for groups iv been routing around and found a few groups, some based in balham some outside.

Within walking distance (am) you have balham library ryhme time. They do two session of sing song?story i think its tues 9.30 am & again at 2.45 and at northcote library on northcote road they have ryhme time mondays at 9.30. Child needs be a memebr tho and mum needs to register them. I tried to register G at balham said needs id for mum/address etc.

Theres a baby group at the ascesion, on 22 malwood rd, sw12 8en.
9.15 to 10.45 and an afternoon one too but not sure time for that. costs £1 per child.(etrm time)

Theres a group at balham communtiy centre thurs morns 10-11.30 £2 a session (term time)

And theres lots groups that do a termly price like tin pan annies on ousley rd dep on what mum wants to pay etc. Thats a music group on weds and fri's 11.20 am to 11.50am 4mth to 16mths then theirs other older classes. Its 11 wk term £82.

Gymboree is on clapham park rd sw4 7de. They do classes. not sure info but tel is : 0208 870 0068.

That what i could find for now lol. Theres also nice park/duck pond on wandsworth common & a child freindly cafe their and groups happen at this cafe/place also. And theres a nice bertie and boo cafe which is v baby friendly and if you fancy long walks northcote road is nice to venture to. All these things you can put into google, then google maps for directions etc as i have been finding out and contacting them people seem freindly and informative.

As i said i dont really know anyone in the area and looking to meet some new faces, playdates for G so if you're interested my email is susiepeacock@hotmail.com or tel :07792195141

hope helps :)

susie :D

Hello

Below is a copy of an email that I sent to my husband's friend's wife that was new to Balham with some suggestions of things to do. Hope this is helpful (sorry some things may have been mentioned before):

Amanda's Action Kids

We used to go to Amanda's Action Kids at the Common Ground Cafe on Wansdworth Cafe. It's a drop in class.

Balham Library:

http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/directory_ ... am_library

They do story time and rhyme time (used to be on a Tuesday at 2.30pm). they would have to go into the library to see what days and times etc. It's free though so worth looking into :)

One O'clock club (run by Sure Start)

The one o'clock club in Tooting Bec common is great, especially in the summer as there is a lovely garden. Open each day from 1-4. There is another one in the Clapham Junction end of Wandsworth Common.

Playgroups:

- Church of the Ascension on Malwood Rd - can't remember which day but she could pop into the church and it will have info about when the playgroup runs etc.
-St Lukes Church on Ramsden Road - this playgroup runs every day but you need to sign up to it at the end or start of each term. You should drop in one morning (it opens at 10am) and ask them about how you get on the waiting list. Once you are on the waiting list you can turn up and see if they have space on the day. It's a really popular playgroup.

Eddie Katz:

Playcenter in Putney and Merton / Wimbledon

It's a Kids thing:

Playcenter - Probably nicer with little ones as it's smaller. You need to call in advance to book a table.

Little Kickers:

You can start Little Kicks at 18 months. My kids love it:

Crumpet:

This place is great with kids - has children's food, play bit, buggy parking etc:

Bertie and Boo:

Lovely little cafe in Balham :

Waterstones on Northcote road:

did a storytime. not sure if they stlll do it but worth checking out

Good luck
