Would you take a 9-month-old to Wimbledon?

Postby newmum83 » Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:52 am

Hi ladies,
I'm hoping to go to Wimbledon tomorrow - and the weather is looking lovely! The only thing is that I'm worried about taking my baby. I know you can't take the baby into any of the show courts but she can play on the grass etc and enjoy people watching!
Also my mother-in-law and a friend are coming to we can take it in turns to go into the courts.
Has anyone else taken their small kids to Wimbledon?
Thanks!
A xx

I've not taken an infant to Wimbledon and nor would I. I have an 8mth old, and the thought of taking him horrifies me! I can't use a sling/carrier so he'd have to be in a pushchair and I don't fancy the idea of trying to get it through the crowds.
I think I'd just spend the day worrying about him and not able to enjoy myself. I'd also worry about whoever was babysitting whilst I was watching the matches.

Hi,I looked into this last year as thought it would be nice to sit on Henman hill with my baby in the sunshine. However, when I enquired, they discourage people from bringing babies and children under 5 even into the grounds, so be warned!

Hi - this might be too late as I think you were planning on going on Friday, but we took our 8mth old (not mobile) last week. My brother and his wife brought their 16 mth old (mobile). We had tickets for court 2 and did exactly what you were thinking - we camped out on Murray mound in front of the big screen with a blanket and picnic and took it in turns to go onto the courts to watch. We had a lovely day and didn't end up leaving until about 8pm! I would definitely recommend slinging/carrying them. If you do take a pushchair then go in the entrance nearest the hill (avoiding having to push through the outside courts).

We were there on Saturday, and although we did leave our 9 month old with friends for the afternoon - I did see a number of babies in pushchairs, despite the fact that they say they discourage it. You will have to deal with pushing it through crowds, so a sling would be easier that way, but I think you'd be fine on the grass with a baby.

Hi ladies,
Thanks for your replies! We did end up going and it was great! We had to queue for 7 hours!! I couldn't believe it but my little girl loved it! Most of it was in a field so she crawled around on the grass and made lots of friends in the queue - she was the entertainment!
When we finally got in e managed to get centre court tickets so we took it in turns - and managed to see most of the Murray game!

Did you take your buggy in with you and if so which entrance did you go in through? We're planning on going tomorrow evening with our 10 month old but she's far too big for a sling and we're hoping she'll drop off in her buggy at some point.

Hi, I hope this isn't too late!
We started queuing in the field, but when we got near the front they took us in a special way to avoid going over the bridge. We took a buggy which as fine. I would recommend it - everyone loved seeing the baby there - she got lots of attention and enjoyed practising her clapping!
