Bonsai has opened up at 34 Bellevue Road serving a selection of speciality coffees, teas, cakes and pastries; and it looks absolutely delightful!

We popped in on Friday and loved it. Lovely little areas and the kids all had to sit in the swing chair!  😄
Great coffee too.

I was there with a large crowd yesterday and really liked the place and the staff were delightful.  Agree good coffee.

That's not a problem for me - as a coffee "nut"  😄

However I do love to pop into F&J for their excellent light lunches and breakfasts

Went yesterday for a takeaway latte.

I agree, good coffee, nice staff

However my latte was £3.50 for a 12oz cup which I thought was a bit steep considering F&J's price is £3.10 and DeRosier also £3.10 ....

Considering , as a base comparison (not as good) Pret a Manger charge £2.50 I would class Bonsai as "expensive"

To use the quote : knowing the price of something and not the value. Why not compare the price of coffee to BP’s I’m sure that’s cheaper too although I wouldn’t drink it. 😳

Thank you Kirstie's Mum but I do know the value of good coffee as I was comparing with F&J and De Rosier who use quality blends and prepare it properly - perhaps I should have said Monmouth in Covent Garden whose 12oz Latte is still cheaper than Bonsai...

... I wasn't comparing it to Fred's Cafe and his catering-instant coffee obviously!  😆

Bonsai is expensive compared to the obvious comparable coffee outlets

There isn’t actually a coffee posted on the menu for 3.50 unless you asked for a large and alternative milk?? That may explain why you were charged 3.50 as they add 50p to your coffee if you ask for a different milk and 30p to upgrade to a large. They do to mine anyway which I can understand.

Makes sense as most of the standard espresso coffees are priced between 2.50-2.70?

Who knows, they could have reduced there prices. I do agree it’s on the pricey side but you get what you pay for

Took a pic of the menu for ya

😁😁

As I said it was a 12oz (large) and you're right - with alternative milk.

However I'm not comparing it with a small (8oz) with milk and I'm not comparing it with Fred's cafe and his instant coffee!

No I'm comparing it with other local independent sellers of "premium" coffee and , believe or not, sometimes you don't get what you paid for!  :D

I’ll end with this note.

I do think that takeaway coffees should be cheaper than have in.

I think the price you pay when you have in is justified, the decor is very cosy and the service has always been friendly. I don’t know about you but I’d prefer paying that bit extra somewhere in order to enjoy my cup in a nice environment.

But I guess if you’re taking away you can’t really fully enjoy a coffee or justify paying 3.50 for a cup that you’ll probably drink on a bus or a walk so yes I’m that respect you won’t always get what you pay for.

I’ve always loved supporting small start ups like this one and will continue to do so.

I blame brexit

Happy new year
