URGENT ! Telefonica Application for 4 New cabinets and Mast Extension on 149 Nightingale Lane SW12

Postby forfun » Sun Mar 01, 2020 6:42 pm

I want to bring to everyones attention that there is a new planning application to Wandsworth Council  [application no: 2020/0437 ] for 4 new street equipment cabinets outside 149 Nightingale Lane near the bus stop. There are also drawings to illustrate an extension of the existing phone mast from the existing 12.5m to 15-20 m [60ft !]  which is now permissible without planning permission, due to a relax in the laws by the government on masts granted in 2019 for 5G. The current mast already towers over the surrounding trees and buildings ,and if increased in size and height, will be seen very visibly by more residents in this green conservation area who live under its ’umbrella’ .These extra 3 cabinets , added to the existing one, will mean more street clutter and along with the mast , will look incongruous and visually intrusive with the surroundings. Telefonica have been trying to get this through every few years since 2007, when residents met and discussed with them at length, to try to re-site the mast and urge them to find a better solution for all-but we have been continuously ignored and find ourselves in this position for the last 10 years. These masts are usually sited well away from residential and school buildings/areas . Somehow this mast got passed at appeal several years ago and since then, has sadly set a precedent for them to keep applying for a higher mast, wider shrouds and even more cabinets since the mast was erected. This mast should never have been passed in the first place in a conservation area ,and should have been sited well away in a more suitable place such as the train station. Telefonica themselves admitted that its current position  is not the most beneficial place for good reception.  Therefore we have asked repeatedly for them to re-site it. We have until the 13th March  to make our comments known, and to try to protect our residential area, pathways ,common and conservation area.
Please support us and comment on :

  • The appearance of the proposal-visual pollution, too many cabinets
  • The impact on trees, its roots for cabling  and green area that it will encroach on
  • Impact on the local environment for pedestrians and residents to the common etc
  • Whether the proposed use is suitable in the conservation area
