Recommended Builders or Not as the Case may be

Postby swmum90 » Tue Jul 12, 2011 3:11 pm

Would like to make sure everyone is aware i most definitely do not recommend Balmain London.

Recently more and more neighbors and local people other mums etc have come out of the woodwork and said the same.
I wish i had known this before hand which is why i think post like this is useful, to name good and bad.

I used Balmain and found them to be extremely helpful. Two and a half years later I still have a fantastic kitchen that looks like new!

I am sorry that you have had a bad experience. We had a new kitchen last year from Balmain and they did fantastic job. The work quailty is excellent, and it was done to time and on budget with minimum disruption. They were extremely helpful throughout the process, patient with our dithering about decisions and have even come back this year to put on a new drawer handle (free of charge) which our younger daughter had broken by using it is a ladder to reach the kitchen surface!! I would recommend them highly.

That’s not my experience of Balmain. We had our bathroom completely re-done by them including some complex marble installation as well as a kitchen refurb. While no building job ever goes perfectly I found their approach to the job to be very professional. They were even on budget!

Sorry, you have had a bad experience, but my experience has been the complete opposite................

Balmain undertook a complete refurb on our house, including a complex side return extension, new kitchen, bathrooms, re-wire, etc. They completed it on-time, on budget, and were open and transparent in their communication throughout.
Always available with help and guidance - and were really patient and helpful when we changed the spec halfway thru.

We were very nervous about undertaking the whole thing - but Col and Jean were brilliant throughout, and we were delighted with the finished product.

Their builders even cleaned up each day before they left!

We have since recommended them to friends, all of whom have been really happy with the results.

No, its not just you - why would 3 people all register on the same day just to post bigging up a kitchen company, nothing else!?

I would also agree 100% with these positive posts above.

We have used Balmain on a number of projects in our house between the commons and on a flat we rent out and they were fantastic.

I think it says it all when I say we have used them more than once after the success of the first lot of work they did for us.

I was surprised to see the negative comment because I’m a complete control freak and extremely fussy when it comes to finish (I used to work in the property industry before I had my baby so know what a good finish looks like). They were really good about meeting with us to make sure we were happy with progress and particularly good when things were drawing to an end to make sure I was happy with everything.

I would also add that they did our bathroom for us just before our baby arrived (a very last minute decision on our part to have this done) so I was on maternity leave and in the house whilst they were finishing off and they were extremely considerate and patient with me as I was very hormonal at the time.

I personally cannot recommend them highly enough and everyone who has seen our house since they did the work comments on how wonderful looks :D .

I am assuming if these comments are in fact true and by real people Balmain have contacted a few of their past clients, as they are aware of the post and are trying to get it removed.

I am not going into detail but i just think its important that this post remains here obviously some people are happy with them and some others are not but surely everyone is allowed their say. I would not be on here complaining if it was a minor issue as i appreciate builders are not 100%. Our project was quite complex and started of fine and deteriorated significantly and i am left clearing up the mess and i dont mean dust and dirt!

I could be very personal, rude or go in to great detail but i did not i just said i do not recommend them, and i feel that there is no crime in this!

We too used Balmain five years ago to have our kitchen refitted in our previous London home and were very pleased with the affordable and high-quality service they provided. Their approach was very professional and they were consistently helpful and dedicated throughout the project, always quickly available on-site should any issue arise. The final kitchen fittings were beautifully put together and completed on schedule. We have since used them for various carpentry projects both in London & Surrey which were also carried out on time and to a high quality standard. We definitely would use them again for any type of building work and highly recommend.

I can only speak for myself (as we all should and not speak for others) but I have used Balmain for one bathroom and a shower room and have been very pleased with their work and the final product. We have had subsequent problems with a tile that we broke and they have been more than helpful in sourcing, lifting and refitting tiles.
I would definitely recommend them to others.

I also agree that the positive comments sound dubious....all the positive comments are from people who joined NPV in the last few days and have only posted once ?? I think very strange....

I think Balmain used to be called Ferreby Construction ? Are they based on Broomwood Road? If they were we had a dreadful experience with them. We spent over £4,000 fixing promblems they left us with. It was a total disaster. 3 years later and we are still finding issues with their work (especially with the plumbing. The plumber they used was the son of the owner of the company and he clearly had no idea what he was doing).

Not a positive experience from us I am afraid...
