Non mint toothpaste for 8 year old

Postby abcdefg » Fri Apr 24, 2020 10:51 am

Hi all

My son absolutely hates mint toothpaste and I am really really struggling to find a good brand that is non mint.  There appear to be many on the market but they are fluoride free - I definitely want fluoride (as advised by dentist!)  Most of the fruit flavoured toothpastes appear to be for children under the age of 6 so therefore not suitable as the fluoride content isn't high enough.  I bought some recently in the US but we have now run out.

If anyone was able to help I would be incredibly grateful.  I don't really understand why the big brands Colgate etc don't make any non mint as we can't be the only ones with this problem!

Thanks so much

My sons were the same and we used this for a while:

https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/pro ... paste-75ml
It contains Sodium Fluoride 0.32% w/w (1450 ppm F) so I think that is sufficient for an 8 year old.

Hope that helps!

Colgate do make a Wibble option (red/green colour tube) with chamomile, eucalyptus & myrrh but I have only been able to find it at Fairlee Pharmacy (by the zebra crossing on the Queenstown Rd/Lavender Hill junction). It’s around £2. I go out of my way to get it as I too am not keen on mint.
The pharmacy has Chiropodists & other holistic practices & also sells Gehwol an excellent French brand of foot care products I can’t find anywhere else. Good luck.

Kingfisher make a fennel flavoured toothpaste with fluoride (they also do one without fluoride so make sure you get the correct one.)

Also there’s a brand called Punch and Judy who make a kids strawberry flavoured one (and also a tutti frutti one) with fluoride. You can get it on Amazon. I remember Punch and Judy toothpaste from when I was a kid - amazed it’s still going.

My daughter hates mint toothpaste too! .....but I’ve finally managed to ween her off the baby fruit ones and onto sensodyne pronamel (6-12yrs). It is mint but she seems to cope with it a lot better than any of the others so maybe it isn’t as strong.
