Children's street party going on in neighbouring road

Postby sunflowers » Fri May 01, 2020 4:37 pm

I have just come back from my daily walk and passed a children's party happening in a neighbouring street. I am really mad!!
I totally feel for children who are missing their parties but really? A party? Balloons and all! Have I missed something?

No you’re not - that is crazy. Surely other children hadn’t come? I can’t imagine many parents receiving an invitation to something so ridiculous and going along with it.

It’s really hard to answer this because I don’t know if adults were there , were they socially distancing - in the sunshine the virus lasts about 10 seconds And a lot of other details . I’m sure the parents and attendees were responsible . If they weren’t then you have a right to be angry

To be honest there were about half a dozen adults and a similar number of children. I didn't stare as I think that I would have looked quite cross. Most of the group seemed to be gathered along the path or just in the road at the end of the path of a normal sized victorian terrace and I would say were not observing any distancing rules at all. I really hate to be miserable but I see tragic story after tragic story in the news and just can't understand it!

Lockdown seems to have disintegrated - whenever I go out I see more and more people of different households and their children mixing. It is stupid and selfish because we want this situation over quickly and we are lucky not to have a strict lockdown. It annoys me and I wonder when I will be able to see my 80 year old dad and my in laws.

Isn't it dangerous with the pandemic? I mean I get it if you want to do something for your child but do it at home and not in the freaking street. I have been thinking of throwing something for my husband during this pandemic but I want something a little bit more private. I have been planning to do a huge party at a restaurant (it's his 45th birthday so I wanted it to be big). I already booked the venue and found an amazing local company to hire event lighting. I had the invitations drafted and printed. And then the corona happened. So now I am stuck with all these deposits and someone is playing outside in a crowd. It's very annoying.

Thanks for the replies. Glad I am not being unreasonable. I agree it really isn't on and I don't think allowed. What would key workers think if they saw it, they are all risking their lives and others are holding a child's party which at that age they probably wouldn't have missed in any case.

I also saw similar happening (maybe same party?!) and couldn’t believe it. Amazed constantly at the moment by people breaking rules such as still having cleaners and nannies.

Having cleaners and nannies isn’t against the rules currently. We don’t have a nanny, and we’ve asked our cleaner to stay off for the foreseeable, but guidance from govt guidance was updated 4th May: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/social-dist ... ce#history
