Burglar Alarm systems - which one and how?

Postby Familycompleted » Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:38 am

We are thinking of installing a burglar alarm and have heard good things about Banham. What is the typical cost of installing one? :? Our builder is quoting 1200 for fitting and installing but that seems high? Does anyone know what is the best way of getting one that is not too expensive? We just want a bell system and doesnt have to be connected to the police. We are very bad at DIY though so nothing we buy ourselves....

It's a fairly straightforward process to get quotes from various alarm companies - they just need to do a home visit to determine the number of sensors required etc. We just did some Googling and rang a few companies. Banham was one of the most expensive quotes that we received and I'm pretty sure that they only offer a monitored service - as does ADT. We ended up getting our alarm installed by a company called National Security Services - it's a 'bells only' alarm where we receive an automated message to our mobiles (or another nominated number if you prefer) saying that the alarm has been triggered. If triggered the alarm sounds for 10 minutes and then resets. The system is wireless so minimal disruption during installation and there's always the optionto upgrade to a monitored system. We've had the alarm 10 months with no problems and much greater peace of mind. I think it was about £700 and we have a three bedroom terraced house.

We used SDS on the Northcote Road. Very good service and seemed reasonably priced. http://www.sdssecurity.co.uk/home

My husband works for ADT and would be happy to come round and give you a quote. Their alarm systems start from £90 and do not have to be police monitored.

If you'd like him to come round, send me a private message with your number or I can let you have his contact details.
