Please don't drive a 4 x 4 if you can't reverse it on a terraced street

Postby whoopsydaisy » Fri Feb 18, 2022 2:12 pm

Earlier today I was driving down Nottingham Road. I am pretty sure that the road was clear when I started going down it.

After a few seconds one of the larger 4 x 4's turned into the road and started coming towards me, as usual there wasn't enough room for us both to pass.

In that situation, I would have expected the "last" car to reverse and let me pass.  The person in the 4 x 4 clearly wasn't happy/able to.

Can I ask (in a non-confrontational way) how many of people on this site drive big 4x4s. I h must be stressful driving large cars around especially if you aren't able to drive / reverse them.

Well said. With the OP, why put yourself in such an uncomfortable position.

As an aside I am surprised that Nottingham Road isn't one way. There is always too much traffic cutting through and I have seen so many stand offs there.

Ha. I do cordially dislike 4x4's [especially the biggest ones] & despair of the number of them on our local residential streets, most of which pre-date mass car ownership & are dimensioned accordingly.

I also despair of the number of drivers in the same roads who seemingly can't or won't reverse back down a double-parked street.

But, honestly, many of our local streets aren't wide enough for even two regular sized cars to reliably pass. I'm not sure there's a huge connection between reversing & 4x4's?
