Get your house ready to sell this Autumn

Postby Liza-Jane Kelly » Fri Sep 02, 2011 12:17 pm

We know that many people start thinking about selling their homes in autumn, so we thought we’d put some handy tips together for our NappyValleyNet friends to help your house stay ahead in the market.

First impressions play a huge part in people’s decisions, and remember you don’t get a second chance to make these! So make sure you’ve removed all your cluttered shoes and school bags from the doorway and feel proud to welcome people in.

As we are coming into autumn, the days will be getting gloomier, but don’t let that make your house seem gloomy! Put some lights on, maybe even light a candle, and open the windows for a blast of fresh air.

Make sure your house looks lived in; you want people to be able to imagine themselves there. Seeing how you use the space in your home will influence people’s decisions, if you have a nice warm airing cupboard to keep towels toasty in, or a hidden cupboard to put the kid’s toys in, leave them there! Your buyer might appreciate the tip.

It’s important that people can move around when they are viewing the house. If the pushchair is in the hallway and people can’t get past, put it away.

Your outside space is just as important, don’t neglect it! Make sure the playhouse isn’t falling down, there aren’t weeds growing through the tiles and there are no rubbish bags outside the door.

And lastly, repair any damage. Mend that wonky coat hook and paint over that crayon mark on the wall. Ensuring everything is in working order will help us to get the best price for your property. To a nervous first-time buyer, a damp stain caused by a minor past leakage suggests an impending flood!

Good luck with your preparations and get in touch if you’d like any more advice.
